About the position

The primary purpose of the Vocational Health Care Technician I position is to ensure safety and individualized job skill training for the individuals served in the vocational program through direct support and service implementation. The position involves supporting the individual in all aspects of his/her career development process including the integration of communication, social skills, and community referenced skills into their work routine. The Vocational Health Care Technician I is part of a team that provides supports based on individual identified needs/wishes/preferences/strengths and potential for learning. These supports are directed toward enhancing independence and retaining skills that maximize resident self-determination. This posting is hiring multiple positions. This position is designated Mandatory and must report or stay over during adverse weather events.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure safety and individualized job skill training for individuals in the vocational program.
  • Support individuals in all aspects of their career development process.
  • Integrate communication, social skills, and community referenced skills into work routines.
  • Provide supports based on individual identified needs, wishes, preferences, strengths, and potential for learning.
  • Enhance independence and retain skills that maximize resident self-determination.

Requirements

  • Documented experience with carrying out training/goal programs.
  • High school or General Educational Development diploma; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Basic math skills of adding, dividing, calculating percentages, and averaging.
  • Visual skills to ensure resident safety, perform supervisory responsibilities, and communicate effectively with residents and staff.
  • Strong program writing and documentation skills.
  • Strong computer skills.
  • Knowledge of PPS system or other program tracking system.
  • Experience providing direct care or active treatment to individuals with developmental disabilities.
  • Experience working with individuals with IDD in a vocational setting.

  • Craft production knowledge and creative ideas.
  • Ability to observe resident performance and give feedback.
  • An ability to stay organized and to work without direct daily supervision.
