About the position

The Recreational/Vocational Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and directing a variety of activities and programming that cater to the diverse needs of youth in care. This role involves developing vocational curriculum, recreation and leisure plans, and organizing cultural events, while supporting the Direct Care Department in managing activities outside of educational hours.

Responsibilities

  • Plan, schedule, and coordinate recreational opportunities for the service population.
  • Maintain a safe and orderly environment during activities.
  • Supervise assigned areas and ensure proper curriculum is followed by youth care workers.
  • Meet deadlines required by program supervisors and federal partners.
  • Communicate effectively in English and Spanish, both verbally and in writing.
  • Coordinate ORR activities including group, physical, vocational, and recreational activities.
  • Develop and implement a monthly recreational activity calendar.
  • Ensure availability of recreational supplies and equipment.
  • Identify, recruit, and maintain commitment from community partners.
  • Coordinate volunteer participation in recreational activities.
  • Provide clear verbal directions during activities.
  • Document each child's progress in recreational activities in reports.
  • Assist staff with supervision during recreational activities.
  • Supervise direct care staff during off-campus outings.
  • Use positive child management techniques during activities.
  • Survey service population quarterly for satisfaction and improvement suggestions.
  • Participate in scheduled meetings and team decisions.
  • Implement safety protocols during emergencies.
  • Maintain confidentiality and professional standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or Equivalent
  • Associate degree or higher preferred
  • Bilingual in English and Spanish (speak, read, and write)
  • 2-5 years of ORR experience or progressive employment in behavioral sciences, human services, or social services
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office suite
  • Proficiency in SharePoint and OneDrive
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
  • Extensive experience with data entry and record keeping
  • Superior oral and written communication skills
  • Interpersonal skills
