About the position

The VR Career Development Coach is responsible for coordinating comprehensive services for youth and young adults who are eligible for and receiving Vocational Rehabilitation program services. This role involves a variety of responsibilities, including the recruitment and identification of qualifying youth, completing referrals, and accompanying clients through the intake process. The coach will also be tasked with finding suitable job placement sites for clients, maintaining relationships with employers, and providing necessary onsite support. Additionally, the coach will assist with Pre-Placement Training, Self-Advocacy classes, and Internships, ensuring that all documentation is completed accurately and timely. A key aspect of this position is to develop and maintain direct working relationships with young adults, their support systems, mental health professionals, community agencies, and worksite partners. The coach will provide guidance and support to case management agencies regarding Youth Services Programs, ensuring that all stakeholders are informed and trained on internal referral and program processes. The role also includes searching for On-the-Job Training (OJT) and Work Based Learning Experience (WBLE) opportunities that align with the interests and abilities of the youth, while being mindful of their proximity to home. The VR Career Development Coach will serve as the primary point of contact for VR Liaisons, assisting with referrals, documentation, and service submissions. They will support enrolled youth during OJT Training to enhance both soft and vocational skills, providing feedback to employers and young adults to ensure successful training experiences. Effective communication with the youth's support team is essential to keep them updated on progress and any challenges that arise. The coach will also be responsible for writing detailed case notes and managing the program budget alongside the Education and Career Development Manager and Finance Director. This position requires participation in the agency's strategic planning and quality improvement processes, ensuring that all services provided meet the necessary standards and expectations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate beginning to end services for youth and young adults receiving Vocational Rehabilitation program services.
  • Recruit and identify qualifying youth for the program.
  • Complete referrals and accompany clients through the intake process.
  • Find appropriate job placement sites for clients and maintain relationships with employers.
  • Provide onsite support for clients during job placements.
  • Assist with Pre-Placement Training, Self-Advocacy classes, and Internships.
  • Develop and maintain working relationships with young adults, their support systems, and community partners.
  • Provide guidance to case management agencies regarding Youth Services Programs.
  • Train local system stakeholders on internal referral and program processes.
  • Search for On-the-Job Training (OJT) and Work Based Learning Experience (WBLE) opportunities.
  • Serve as the Point of Contact for VR Liaisons for referrals and documentation.
  • Assist enrolled youth during OJT Training to improve soft skills and vocational skills.
  • Collaborate with supervisors at partner job sites to address any issues promptly.
  • Ensure effective communication with the youth's support team regarding progress and challenges.
  • Write detailed case notes and input them into appropriate databases.
  • Manage program budget and revenue alongside the Education and Career Development Manager and Finance Director.
  • Lead and support Vocational Rehabilitation Public Ally in job duties.
  • Guarantee purposeful data collection and tracking for quality assurance and audits.
  • Facilitate Work Based Learning and Self Advocacy Training multiple times per year.
  • Support staff in identifying potential community employers for internships or long-term employment.
  • Participate in the agency's strategic plan and quality improvement processes.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in social work or a human services field.
  • Two years of experience in employment counseling, job placement, job coaching, and child welfare case management.
  • Knowledge and at least two years of experience working in the child welfare system.
  • Experience working with at-risk adolescents/young adults and/or those with developmental disabilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office programs (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook).
  • Interpersonal skills to interact effectively with youth, mentors, and community stakeholders.
  • Ability to travel locally to visit youth in their placements or job placements.

Nice-to-haves

  • State of Florida Child Welfare Certification (CWCM).
  • Master's degree in social work or human services field.
  • Certification or specialized training in ADA services.
  • Demonstrated experience in effectively communicating in individual and large group settings.
  • Minimum of one year experience working with youth and/or adults with disabilities.
  • Experience and clear understanding of invoicing, monthly outcome tracking, and coding.
