About the position

The Volleyball Referee position is a part-time seasonal role responsible for officiating volleyball games, ensuring safety, and enforcing the rules of the game as per IHSA guidelines with adjustments for age and skill level. The referee must demonstrate professionalism and provide high-quality customer service while maintaining a safe and fair playing environment.

Responsibilities

  • Arrive on time for all assigned games.
  • Wear the appropriate uniform as required for the referee position.
  • Use a whistle appropriately during games.
  • Make consistent and correct calls according to volleyball rules.
  • Move about the court to keep up with play and make appropriate calls.
  • Cooperate and work well with other referees and staff.
  • Demonstrate priorities of Safe, Fair, and Fun during games.
  • Provide high-quality customer service to internal and external customers.
  • Follow Wheaton Park District policies, procedures, and guidelines.
  • Support the V.A.L.U.E.S. (integrity, fun, commitment, adaptability and growth, kindness, and service) daily.
  • Organize and implement the Character Counts program for coaches and parents.
  • Maintain good safety awareness and follow all safety guidelines.

Requirements

  • Minimum 16 years of age with some volleyball experience as a player or official.
  • Knowledge of volleyball rules is required.
  • Comfortable working with adult coaches, parents, and spectators.
  • Must have CPR/AED certification or obtain within one year of employment.
  • Must be a 'Mandated Reporter' for the Abused and Neglected Child Reporting Act.
