About the position

The Voluntary Stewardship Program Coordinator is responsible for coordinating all aspects of Skagit County's Voluntary Stewardship Program (VSP), which aims to protect critical areas through voluntary actions by private landowners. This role involves collaboration with various stakeholders, including agricultural, tribal, and environmental groups, to achieve the program's goals. The coordinator will evaluate, plan, organize, and execute the VSP Work Plan, facilitate community engagement, and ensure compliance with state and federal regulations.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate all aspects of Skagit County's Voluntary Stewardship Program (VSP).
  • Develop a clear vision for the VSP and create guiding materials such as outreach and monitoring strategies.
  • Work closely with local organizations to identify areas of need and seek funding.
  • Lead technical work related to meeting the goals of County programs, including report preparation and data synthesis.
  • Supervise and evaluate the work of consultants assigned to VSP compliance efforts.
  • Develop and lead public education and outreach efforts to promote VSP awareness and participation.
  • Maintain records relating to VSP, including meeting notes and annual reports.
  • Compile data and prepare VSP reports required by the Washington Conservation Commission.
  • Implement and update the County's VSP Work Plan as needed.
  • Oversee field investigations of critical areas on private property.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Planning, Agriculture, Natural Resource Management, Environmental Science, Engineering, or related field.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office products.
  • Previous experience in local government preferred.
  • Knowledge of Critical Areas, Growth Management Act, and Agriculture.
  • Familiarity with GIS techniques and database management.
  • Understanding of State and Federal regulations relating to critical areas, water quality, and threatened or endangered species.
