About the position

The Denver Museum of Nature & Science is seeking a dedicated Volunteer Engagement Specialist (Bilingual) to support and enhance our vibrant volunteer community, which consists of over 800 individuals actively engaged in scientific research and providing enriching experiences for our guests. This full-time position is crucial in ensuring that our volunteer program continues to thrive and align with the Museum's mission of igniting passion for nature and science within the community. The ideal candidate will be organized, motivated, and a team player, ready to assist in developing program infrastructure that meets the diverse needs of various teams across the Museum. In this role, you will be responsible for overseeing the work of volunteers, ensuring they are adequately trained and knowledgeable about exhibit content, customer service, and Museum programs. You will also conduct periodic needs assessments to identify volunteer capacity and make recommendations for resource allocation. Your presence will be essential, as you will provide on-site support and problem-solving assistance at least 75% of the time, ensuring that all volunteer positions are covered and that volunteers receive the guidance and feedback necessary for their success. This position requires flexibility, as you will be expected to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed. While there are no direct supervisory responsibilities for staff, you will play a pivotal role in the success of our volunteer program, contributing to the overall mission of the Museum and enhancing the visitor experience.

Responsibilities

  • Ensure proper coverage of all volunteer positions and shifts for assigned gallery.
  • Train front of house volunteers to be knowledgeable about exhibit content, customer service, Museum programs, and daily events.
  • Conduct periodic meetings with department team members to assess volunteer needs and make recommendations for resource use.
  • Provide gallery volunteers with clear direction, expectations, ongoing training, and feedback to ensure their success.
  • Offer work oversight, problem solving, and support through on-site availability at least 75% of the time.
  • Coordinate with Museum Programs, Guest Services, Exhibits, and Research & Collections staff to ensure content alignment.

Requirements

  • 2 years' experience managing events and/or programs.
  • 2 years' experience in customer service.
  • Ability to work evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) speaking, reading, and writing.
