About the position

American Conservation Experience, a nonprofit Conservation Corps, in partnership with the National Park Service, is seeking ONE Volunteers-In-Parks (VIP) Assistant Member to support Chattahoochee River National Recreation Area's volunteer program. The Assistant Volunteer Coordinator would be one of the primary point-of-contacts for people interested in volunteering and would be the conduit to connect volunteers to all divisions within the park. This individual placement is meant to facilitate professional development and promotes exposure to land management agencies and networking with professionals. This includes gaining experience in different conservation fields and shadowing different work groups.

Responsibilities

  • Assist with recruiting, hiring, training, supervising, and mentoring all new volunteers in the park.
  • Assist and eventually lead groups of volunteers in river cleanups as well as land based trash removal and trail maintenance.
  • Send out emails to keep the volunteers updated on upcoming events.
  • Responsible for the volunteer database that tracks events and individual hours.

Requirements

  • Members must be a U.S. citizen or Permanent Resident.
  • Willing and able to represent ACE and the partner organization in a professional, positive, and enthusiastic manner.
  • Ability to be both self-directed/work alone, and be a positive, contributing member of a group.
  • A valid driver's license and an insurable driving record.
  • Willing to undergo and must pass the required criminal history checks.
  • Ability to perform the essential duties of the position with or without reasonable accommodation.
  • ACE Members will need to complete bi-weekly timesheets, beginning of term feedback forms, end of term evaluations and for longer terms, a mid-term evaluation.

Nice-to-haves

  • Relevant experience in subject areas such as natural resources, trail restoration, or educational outreach.
  • Willing and able to become chainsaw certified.
  • Willing and able to participate in river activities.
  • Proficient with hand tools.
  • Relevant experience in outdoor skills, hiking, swimming, woodworking, carpentry.

  • Living Allowance: $600/week to offset costs of food and incidental expenses.
  • Housing: Accommodated in park housing at no cost for the duration of the term.
  • Public Land Corps Hiring Authority: Eligibility for federal hiring authority upon completion of term and 640 hours of service.
  • Relocation Allowance: Access to up to $150 for eligible relocation expenses.
  • Provided Training/Orientation: Position specific training and orientation outlining ACE policies and procedures.
