About the position

The Voucher Examiner position at the Department of Veterans Affairs involves examining vouchers, invoices, and other documents related to expenditures within the Fiscal Service. This role is crucial for ensuring accurate financial transactions and compliance with regulations, while also providing customer service to internal stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • Examine all vouchers, invoices, and other documents covering expenditures.
  • Maintain patient electronic funds transfer (EFT) data and ensure current information in the Beneficiary Master Database.
  • Process payments in accordance with contracts and regulations.
  • Reconcile payments according to contracts and regulations.
  • Conduct audits of employee travel claims.
  • Clear outstanding Travel Advances processed in FMS by Fed Traveler and beneficiary overpayments through bills and offsets.
  • Liquidate appropriate obligations and take necessary actions for closure to ensure accurate financial statements.
  • Maintain a payment/invoice tracking system.
  • Use automated accounting systems to interpret financial transactions.
  • Provide consistent information to customers according to established policies and procedures.
  • Handle conflicts and problems with customers constructively and appropriately.

Requirements

  • U.S. Citizenship is required to apply for this job.
  • Selective Service Registration is required for males born after 12/31/1959.
  • Must have one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least GS-05 level in the Federal service.
  • Experience in assisting customers with forms and requirements via various communication methods.
  • Ability to process and review documents for accuracy and completeness.
  • Familiarity with electronic systems for accessing and processing information.
  • Knowledge of VHA rules and regulations as well as Federal Travel Regulations.
