About the position

At Broadridge, we are seeking a VP, Accounting Policy to join our Accounting Policy team within the controllership function. This position is pivotal as it reports directly to the Assistant Corporate Controller and plays a crucial role in ensuring that our accounting policies are continuously updated and effectively communicated across the global accounting department. The ideal candidate will enhance our policy function, providing a unique opportunity to develop technical accounting and financial reporting knowledge while gaining exposure to senior-level executives. In this key leadership role, you will provide subject matter expertise on accounting guidance and make recommendations regarding the interpretation and application of accounting standards under company policy and GAAP. You will have a broad span of influence within the accounting function, providing vision, leadership, and innovation from a finance perspective. Your responsibilities will include applying the ASC 606 revenue recognition model to complex transactions, clearly articulating conclusions, and documenting positions based on relevant accounting guidance. You will be responsible for conducting technical accounting research and implementation, reviewing proposed accounting standards, and determining their potential impact on the company. Additionally, you will review complicated accounting issues and make recommendations for appropriate treatment, advise business heads regarding the accounting implications of new products, and document financial, tax, and regulatory reporting changes. Leading the preparation of accounting transaction memos detailing significant transactions will also be part of your role. Furthermore, you will represent the organization externally on matters related to accounting policies and external reporting, developing an active role in industry-wide relationships. Your critical leadership will extend to providing technical support for M&A and structured transactions, including due diligence and transaction structuring for accounting issues. You will assist in the quarterly preparation and review of consolidated financial statements and related SEC disclosures, ensuring all matters are appropriately disclosed. Training the accounting department on new accounting standards and fulfilling ad-hoc requests will also be part of your responsibilities.

Responsibilities

  • Provide subject matter expertise on accounting guidance and make recommendations regarding the interpretation and application of accounting standards under company policy and GAAP.
  • Provide vision, leadership, and innovation regarding finance from a broad span of influence within the accounting function.
  • Apply the ASC 606 revenue recognition model to complex transactions and document the position referencing relevant accounting guidance.
  • Conduct technical accounting research and implementation, reviewing proposed accounting standards and determining their potential impact on the Company.
  • Review complicated accounting issues and make recommendations for appropriate treatment.
  • Advise business heads and managers regarding the accounting implications of new products and changes to existing products.
  • Document and research financial, tax, and regulatory reporting changes.
  • Lead in the preparation of accounting transaction memos detailing significant transactions.
  • Represent the organization externally on matters affiliated with accounting policies and external reporting by developing an active role in industry-wide relationships.
  • Provide technical accounting consulting/advisory services to support structured transactions, including due diligence and transaction structuring for accounting issues.
  • Assist with the target company's implementation of acquiring company's accounting policies and related project management.
  • Assist in the quarterly preparation and review of consolidated financial statements and related SEC disclosures for public filings.
  • Ensure all matters are appropriately disclosed in the financial statement review process.
  • Prepare and update accounting policies and maintain the Company online accounting policy manual.
  • Interact with independent accountants on accounting technical matters.
  • Provide training to the accounting department related to accounting policies and new accounting standards.
  • Fulfill ad-hoc requests from members within the accounting department and other areas as needed.

Requirements

  • Minimum of a Bachelor's Degree in Accounting.
  • CPA required.
  • Deep knowledge and experience with the application of ASC 606, Revenue Recognition and related concepts, preferably in the software industry.
  • 10+ years of related experience with a minimum of 5 years in public accounting preferable.
  • Strong US GAAP knowledge and research skills.
  • Hands-on knowledge and experience in accounting financial reporting with respect to a technology company, including revenue recognition and software development.
  • Experience with technical accounting matters as it relates to business combinations, goodwill, and intangible impairment.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including extensive experience writing and reviewing technical accounting memos.
  • Ability to clearly articulate accounting matters to senior executives.
  • Provide strategic direction and sound business judgment that result in the achievement of finance and companywide objectives.
  • Proficient with MS desktop applications.
