About the position

The Assistant Controller supports the Banc's Controller in all accounting and finance-related activities playing a vital role in the monthly close process, internal and external financial report preparation, regulatory reporting, and board package preparation. The Assistant Controller serves as a resource for technical accounting research, a liaison to external auditors and a leader to the accounting staff. The Assistant Controller fosters a collaborative, high-performance culture and drives continuous improvement.

Responsibilities

  • Assists with the management of daily accounting tasks including general ledger integrity, journal entry review and account reconciliations.
  • Ensures accuracy of transactions, proper coding, and corrects/reconciles accounting inaccuracies or imbalances.
  • Manages the month-end and year-end closing process.
  • Prepares consolidated financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements, for monthly, quarterly, and year-end reporting in compliance with generally accepted accounting principles and applicable regulations.
  • Drafts annual audited financial statements including footnote disclosures.
  • Liaison to external auditors to facilitate the audit process, providing necessary supporting documentation and explanations.
  • Researches technical accounting guidance.
  • Ensures all corporate and accounting policies and procedures are properly documented, implemented and current.
  • Develops, documents and maintains internal controls to prevent errors in financial statements and safeguard assets.
  • Analyzes financial data to identify trends and variances in support of decision making.
  • Supervises accounting staff, including training, assigning tasks, and reviewing work.
  • Prepare ad hoc analysis and reports as requested; and other duties as assigned.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance or related discipline.
  • CPA/Public Accounting experience strongly preferred.
  • Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in accounting or finance, preferably with a financial institution; experience to include 3+ years of managerial experience.
  • Experience with financial statement preparation and regulatory reporting.
  • Proficient in MS Office products, specifically Excel, and accounting software programs.
  • Expert knowledge of accounting and financial principles, regulations, and best practices.
  • Excellent communication and analytical skills.
  • High initiative, organized with keen attention to detail.
  • Problem solving mindset.
  • Able to handle confidential information appropriately.
  • Ability to work with team members across the organization.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with FIS, AvidXchange (BankTel) and BlackLine.
