About the position

The VP, Assistant Controller at AMC Networks is responsible for overseeing the general ledger and the monthly close process for all corporate entities. This role involves managing a team of accounting professionals, ensuring accurate financial reporting, and implementing internal controls. The position requires strong leadership skills, a deep understanding of accounting principles, and the ability to communicate effectively with various stakeholders.

Responsibilities

  • General ledger responsibility for all corporate entities and the overall monthly close process.
  • Hire, train, develop and supervise staff professionals in their day-to-day responsibilities.
  • Directly supervise three Accountants in all phases of day-to-day accounting activities.
  • Administer schedule for monthly closing activities to meet corporate reporting cycle requirements.
  • Review and approve journal entries to the books and records of the Company.
  • Design and implement new controls around the WIP and Fixed Asset ledger.
  • Review all account analysis for assigned business units and the company's Fixed Asset sub ledgers.
  • Review and approve Authorization for Payment Forms and Purchase Requisitions.
  • Review variance analysis contained in monthly financial reports to management.
  • Establish and maintain close communication with corporate, business unit, and finance management to discuss financial results, trends, and issues.
  • Responsible for the establishment of new general ledger accounts and periodic review of the Oracle system.
  • Participate in monthly pre-close meetings with business units to ensure financial results are activity-based.
  • Evaluate and identify areas of potential exposure and internal control improvements.
  • Implement and manage Oracle ARCS for electronic reconciliation.
  • Coordinate with Technical Accounting to properly record complex transactions.
  • Perform Health and benefit analysis to ensure appropriate corporate liabilities.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate or graduate degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • CPA strongly preferred.
  • 15+ years experience in finance/accounting with 5+ years in a Manager/Director level position at a medium to large publicly traded Company.
  • Strong understanding of US GAAP and SOX required.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to organize, prioritize, delegate, and multi-task responsibilities.
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills; strong writing skills.
  • Curious and enthusiastic with a proactive approach to problem-solving.
  • Ability to work under pressure and within tight deadlines.
  • Strong critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Nice-to-haves
