About the position

The role is part of the Accounting team at S&P Global, reporting directly to the Senior Vice President, Chief Accounting Officer. This position offers a unique opportunity to influence positive change and introduce efficiencies across the finance organization, both centrally and across various divisions. The successful candidate will interact with key executives and develop strong partnerships with CFOs across different business units, gaining insights into their unique offerings. The position involves leading an established Center of Excellence (CoE) operating model, control network, and key initiatives across finance technology, lease accounting, record to report processes, incentive compensation accounting, and cash management. The individual will be responsible for protecting the company's interests by challenging business assumptions and decisions while implementing global initiatives and policies. Key responsibilities include ensuring an accurate and independent view of the financial situation of the business unit, developing and implementing a vision for centralized accounting workflows, and leveraging data-driven, automated accounting processes. The role also involves leading a revenue accounting team, overseeing month-end and year-end accounting procedures, and ensuring compliance with local and group accounting principles. The candidate will be expected to promote a finance culture focused on return on investment and cash-flow generation, while also identifying risks and opportunities at the business unit level. The position requires collaboration with various stakeholders, including the Finance Technology Team and Global Real Estate Services, to maximize efficiencies and ensure proper implementation of accounting standards. The candidate will also be responsible for fostering a culture of continuous improvement within the accounting team, aligning with technological advancements.

Responsibilities

  • Protect the Company's best interests by challenging business assumptions and decisions.
  • Implement global initiatives and policies across the finance organization.
  • Ensure an accurate and independent view of the financial situation of the business unit, including financial results and forecasts.
  • Develop and implement a vision and strategy for centralized accounting workflows.
  • Implement automation techniques to accelerate the accounting close process.
  • Lead a revenue accounting team handling month-end accruals for all divisions.
  • Oversee month-end, quarter-end, and year-end accounting procedures across divisions.
  • Lead Global Commission Accounting and the implementation of ASC 606.
  • Ensure consistent and accurate implementation of a strong internal control environment.
  • Advise on Business Unit performance maximization by monitoring costs and identifying process improvements.
  • Propose action plans to operational management and challenge business decisions.
  • Identify and assess risks and opportunities at the business unit level.
  • Promote a finance culture focused on return on investment and cash-flow generation.
  • Lead accounting processes related to business divisions and ensure compliance with accounting principles.
  • Work with the Finance Technology Team to maximize efficiencies.
  • Partner with Business Services for technology prioritization.
  • Encourage a culture of continuous improvement within the accounting team.

Requirements

  • 12+ years of experience in accounting or finance.
  • CPA/Chartered Accountant designation.
  • Experience with accounting ERP's and related technologies.
  • Significant experience with complex entities across multiple business lines globally.
  • Strong knowledge and proficiency in Alteryx.
  • Ability to lead strategic projects beyond business-as-usual activities.
  • Project management skills and ability to maintain governance processes.
  • Ability to articulate financial narratives to executives.
