About the position

The VP & Chief of Staff for Optum Financial plays a crucial role in supporting the CEO in executing the business vision and strategic initiatives. This position involves leading critical projects, coordinating with various leaders across the organization, and ensuring alignment with business goals. The Chief of Staff is expected to thrive in a dynamic environment, proactively identifying opportunities and managing multiple deliverables simultaneously.

Responsibilities

  • Provides leadership and guidance to critical strategic initiatives across Optum Financial, business units, and the enterprise.
  • Provides guidance to CEO on ideation and key decisions.
  • Coordinates with leaders across the organization to create better alignment with business partners, business segments, and functional areas.
  • Supports development of the strategic plan, financial plans, and annual business plans in conjunction with Executives, Finance, and other functional teams, providing insight and recommendations and ensuring alignment.
  • Anticipates, manages preparation for, and facilitates CEO management meetings.
  • Anticipates and leads/coordinates the preparation for all meetings CEO attends.
  • Proactively identifies areas requiring CEO attention in a structured, solution-orientated format.
  • Manages the development of MBOs / KPIs, ensures alignment across the executive team to deliver against goals and tracks progress against key milestones.
  • Leads strategic initiatives and critical projects and priorities on behalf of the CEO and executive team focused on execution of strategic initiatives and corporate deliverables such as Board presentations.

Requirements

  • BA/BS degree; MBA or equivalent master's degree is a plus.
  • 10+ years of leadership experience with demonstrated experience directly and indirectly leading people.
  • 8+ years professional experience in strategic planning, consulting, transformation, and/or operational leadership roles, preferably in financial services, technology or banking.
  • Experience successfully translating a vision into implementation and results as well as leading enterprise level strategies.
  • Exceptional collaborator, communicator, and executive presence; solid ability to communicate effectively and efficiently (both verbal and written) at multiple levels of a large, complex organization.
  • Deep understanding of strategy, operations, reporting and forecasting with a demonstrated ability to quickly aggregate and analyze information and draw conclusions.
  • Ability to predict, quickly understand, and act on business needs.
  • Highly influential, strategic thinker, willing to challenge siloed thinking and drive change at all levels of the organization.
  • Highly motivated self-starter with a track record of driving programs and projects in a matrix environment with demonstrated history of successfully managing complex and scaled initiatives.
  • Ability to handle highly confidential or sensitive information in a professional, discreet manner.
  • Exceptionally organized with solid attention to detail.
  • Highly mission-driven, culture leader who leads by example and acts as mentor to emerging talent.
