About the position

The Vice President, Chief Technology Officer (CTO) at UChicago Medicine is a pivotal leadership role responsible for modernizing the organization's IT infrastructure. The CTO will provide strategic direction for technology initiatives, oversee the development of enterprise standards, and ensure the alignment of IT architecture with the institution's goals. This position requires collaboration with clinical and business leaders to drive digital transformation and enhance operational efficiency while managing a multi-million-dollar budget.

Responsibilities

  • Lead strategic and tactical planning to achieve UChicago Medicine's institutional goals.
  • Assess the impact and effectiveness of UChicago Medicine's telecommunication and technology architecture.
  • Collaborate with IT leaders and internal stakeholders to understand technology needs and provide guidance for digital transformation.
  • Manage a multi-million-dollar budget, including capital and operating expenses.
  • Monitor technological advancements to enhance operational efficiency and patient care.
  • Oversee the design, implementation, and maintenance of a secure IT infrastructure.
  • Ensure smooth operation of critical systems and optimize system performance.
  • Develop technology-related policies and represent IT on policy committees.
  • Partner with the Chief Information Security and Privacy Officer to implement security strategies.
  • Implement disaster recovery and business continuity plans.
  • Represent the CIO at industry meetings to advocate for UChicago Medicine's interests.
  • Foster partnerships with technology vendors and industry organizations.
  • Create a culture of excellent customer service in IT support and services.
  • Supervise recruitment, development, and retention of a diverse staff of over 100 individuals.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree with a minimum of 10 years IT experience, including 5 years in leadership roles.
  • Advanced degree in a technology or business field preferred.
  • Experience leading large scale, complex projects in a matrixed environment.
  • Deep technical experience in information security, cyber forensics, and disaster recovery.
  • Proven skills in contract management and vendor relationships.
  • Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with experience in strategic planning and project management.
  • Advanced knowledge of technologies within the IT organization.
  • Ability to build successful teams and manage conflicting demands effectively.
  • Exemplary customer service skills and financial acumen.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in a healthcare setting is preferred.
  • Familiarity with smart building technologies and Internet of Things devices.
