The Chief Technology Officer (CTO) is responsible for establishing both the current and long-range direction of health information technology infrastructure and support services. This role is pivotal in ensuring that the organization remains at the forefront of change, adhering to current best practices and policies within a large Information Systems (IS) Division while ensuring compliance with regulatory IT requirements. The CTO will be tasked with creating a strategic IT plan or roadmap that includes a thorough analysis of purchased systems, hardware, and software, as well as the internal design and development of strategies for hardware and non-clinical software systems across various divisions, including acute, ambulatory, and community care. In this capacity, the CTO will provide technical advice, guidance, direction, and authorization to implement major plans and procedures. This includes overseeing the implementation of IT components of an enterprise IT strategic roadmap, which encompasses the design, implementation, marketing, and maintenance of technology projects or product lines. The CTO will also analyze new technologies, including biomedical devices, conduct competitive analyses, and promote the interfacing and control of the organization's existing technology. Furthermore, the CTO will be responsible for disseminating technological information throughout the organization and to key external stakeholders, ensuring that the organization is well-informed and equipped to leverage technology effectively. The role requires modeling appropriate behavior as exemplified in The Methodist Mission, Vision, and Values.
