About the position

The VP, Commercial Loan Officer is responsible for developing and maintaining a loan portfolio that contributes to the growth and profitability of the Bank while ensuring asset quality. This role involves managing the client process from loan application to post-closing, providing quality customer service, and maintaining ongoing business relationships with customers. The position requires a thorough knowledge of bank products and services, compliance with federal regulations, and active participation in business and community activities.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and maintain a loan portfolio that contributes to the growth and profitability of the Bank while maintaining asset quality.
  • Maintain individual loan portfolio in a satisfactory and acceptable manner in accordance with Bank policies and procedures.
  • Manage portfolio maintenance including matured loans, delinquent loans, documentation, financial statements, and loan workout as necessary.
  • Monitor portfolio for weaknesses or potential downturns; report any potential issues immediately to EVP Chief Lending Officer.
  • Manage client process including loan application, underwriting, approval, closing, and post-closing.
  • Provide quality customer service; ensure customer's financial services needs are met in a timely manner.
  • Meet and communicate with present and prospective customers; maintain ongoing business relationships with present customers to take advantage of additional cross-selling opportunities.
  • Jointly establish quantitative sales objectives with assigned supervisor on an annual basis; integrate this activity with the department's annual marketing/sales plan.
  • Make outside calls and solicit new business from present and prospective customers.
  • Generate new deposits and loans for the Bank.
  • Provide direct service to commercial customers of the Bank with respect to deposit, loan, and other Bank products and services; review customer financial information and analyze credit worthiness; approve or reject loan applications within individual lending authority.
  • Submit underwriting and supporting documentation in a timely manner.
  • Complete and provide timely reports as required; complete various forms as required and according to established procedures.
  • Support HMDA data recording as necessary.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records of all customer service calls made and meetings held with present and prospective customers.
  • Provide sales information on a timely basis for inclusion in customer service and sales performance reports.
  • Monitor individual sales performance versus objectives on a regular basis; discuss performance with appropriate supervisor frequently.
  • Serve as a member of the Bank's sales team; make group sales calls to improve opportunities for new business development.
  • Maintain thorough knowledge of the features and benefits of all Bank products and services to ascertain customer needs and sell accordingly.
  • Assist customers in obtaining specialized services from other Bank departments as necessary; provide help to customers with specific inquiries or service problems.
  • Maintain current working knowledge of Bank operating policies and procedures impacting commercial services.
  • Maintain current knowledge of applicable federal regulations and Know Your Customer principles.
  • Complete all required compliance testing in a timely manner.
  • Achieve customer service goals as established in the Commercial Lending Department's annual operating plan.
  • Abide by current laws and organizational policies designed to promote a harassment-free workplace.
  • Cooperate with, participate in, and support adherence to all internal policies, procedures, and practices in support of risk management and overall safety and soundness.
  • Communicate with management and staff personnel to integrate goals and activities.
  • Respond to inquiries relating to his/her area or requests from other Bank personnel, customers, etc., within given time frames and established policy.
  • Maintain appropriate records and provide assigned reports.
  • Actively participate in business and community activities in a manner reflecting favorably on the Bank.

Requirements

  • Minimum of seven (7) years related banking experience.
  • Bachelor's degree in Business, Finance, or related field required.
  • Specialized bank lending education/training.
  • Valid driver's license.
  • Proficient in English (reading, writing, grammar and mathematics).
  • Strong interpersonal relations, communication, customer service and sales skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills.
  • Financial analysis and underwriting skills.
  • PC skills (Microsoft Office).
  • Thorough knowledge of bank products and services, operating policies and procedures impacting bank services.
  • Visual and auditory skills.
