The Communications Surveillance Vice President role at Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation (SMBC) is a pivotal position within the Compliance Communications Surveillance function. Reporting directly to the Lead of Transformation, Audit, and Reporting, this role is essential for the development, deployment, and maintenance of Natural Language Processing (NLP) and other model-based capabilities that are integral to the Communications Surveillance Program. The Vice President will act as a change agent, collaborating with various departments within the Americas Division, including Technology, Compliance Analytics, and Model Risk and Validation, to utilize advanced techniques for processing, analyzing, and managing data sets that are subject to monitoring. In addition to overseeing the technical aspects of NLP implementation, the Communications Surveillance Vice President will be responsible for selecting vendor solutions that enhance the detection of misconduct. This includes developing and maintaining controls related to the existing communications program, ensuring that SMBC employs the most effective technology to identify and mitigate risks by recognizing new behavioral trends and reducing false positives. The role also involves creating strategies to address false positives, enhancing risk detection in communications surveillance, and ensuring that Service Level Agreements (SLAs) are met by all upstream partners concerning NLP deliverables. Furthermore, the Vice President will prepare metrics and reports for management and stakeholders to evaluate the effectiveness of NLP within the communications surveillance framework.
