About the position

The Vice President/Controller at Signal Financial Federal Credit Union is a leadership role focused on overseeing the accounting and financial reporting functions of the organization. This position is responsible for ensuring compliance with regulatory standards, driving process improvements, and leading a team to deliver accurate financial information to senior management and the Board. The ideal candidate will possess strong analytical skills, a deep understanding of GAAP, and a commitment to fostering a culture of excellence within the finance team.

Responsibilities

  • Manage monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements with a focus on GAAP and regulatory requirements.
  • Conduct thorough forensic accounting investigations to identify discrepancies and fraud.
  • Lead efforts to clean up unreconciled general ledgers and ensure accurate account balancing.
  • Develop and implement robust Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for GL reconciliation processes.
  • Supervise and mentor a finance team, promoting continuous learning and excellence.
  • Implement and monitor internal controls to safeguard financial assets and ensure compliance.
  • Champion the use of financial tools like Fiserv Prologue to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Continuously evaluate and refine accounting processes for improved accuracy and compliance.
  • Oversee the budget process, develop long-term forecasts, and lead variance analysis.
  • Manage daily settlements with the Federal Reserve and ensure robust liquidity management.
  • Produce ALM reports and monitor key risk metrics, serving as the ALCO liaison.
  • Manage audit processes and maintain compliance with NCUA.

Requirements

  • 5-10 years in a similar financial role, with at least 3 years of supervisory experience in the credit union or banking industry.
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field; relevant work experience may also be considered.
  • Strong understanding of GAAP and regulatory requirements.
  • Experience with financial systems, particularly Fiserv Prologue.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience with Federal Reserve settlement processes.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills.
  • Proven track record of optimizing and integrating financial systems.
