About the position

The VP of Design Engineering & Construction at Digital Realty will lead the strategic vision for the design and construction of data centers in North America. This role focuses on optimizing delivery processes to ensure cost-effectiveness and high-quality outcomes, contributing to the company's competitive advantage and return on investment. The VP will manage a team dedicated to enhancing the efficiency and effectiveness of data center projects while collaborating with global teams to drive innovation and strategic growth.

Responsibilities

• Lead, develop, and motivate the North America Design and Construction (D&C) team.
• Align with global plans to execute the strategy and delivery of the full data center D&C lifecycle.
• Partner with the Global Team to support R&D capabilities for next-generation data center designs.
• Manage and oversee North America regional design and construction projects.
• Initiate and maintain a historical construction cost database for business case support.
• Provide cross-functional support with Portfolio Management and Acquisition teams for future expansion plans.
• Execute new design innovations to optimize cost engineering and energy efficiency.
• Manage design scope and ensure timely and budget-compliant delivery.
• Support the Managing Director North America in developing go-to-market strategies.
• Maintain a coherent governance process and program methodology.
• Provide leadership and oversight of the capital budget development for construction-related work.

Requirements

• A bachelor's degree or equivalent in Architecture, Engineering, Construction & Development, or related field.
• 10 years of proven work experience in design and/or construction with strong people management experience.
• Proven track record of managing design to deliver cost savings and driving revenue growth.
• Solid track record of strategic accomplishments in rapidly growing companies.
• Experience in building teams to scale in a dynamic technology-focused environment.
• Extremely collaborative leader with flexibility and creativity.
• Strong executive presence and sense of urgency.
• Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills.
• Exceptional interpersonal, team building, and facilitation skills.
• Ability to effectively communicate across diverse audiences.
