About the position
The VP of Design Engineering & Construction Delivery at Digital Realty is responsible for leading the strategic vision for the design and construction of data centers in North America. This role emphasizes optimizing delivery speed, cost efficiency, and quality to ensure competitive advantage and return on investment. The VP will empower their team to achieve industry-leading performance in the design and construction processes while collaborating with global teams to drive innovation and growth strategies.
Responsibilities
- Lead, develop, and motivate the North America Design and Construction (D&C) team.
- Align with global plans to execute the strategy and delivery of the full data center D&C lifecycle.
- Partner with the Global Team to support R&D capabilities for next-generation data center designs.
- Manage and oversee overall North America regional design and construction projects.
- Lead the delivery and commissioning of new data centers in the region.
- Initiate and maintain a historical construction cost database for business cases.
- Provide cross-functional support with Portfolio Management and Acquisition teams for future expansion plans.
- Execute new design innovations to optimize cost engineering and energy efficiency.
- Manage the scope of design and ensure timely and budget-compliant delivery.
- Support the Managing Director North America in developing go-to-market strategies.
- Maintain a governance process and program methodology.
- Provide leadership and oversight of the capital budget for construction-related work.
Requirements
- A bachelor's degree or equivalent in Architecture, Engineering, Construction & Development, or related field.
- 10 years of proven work experience in design and/or construction with strong people management experience.
- Proven track record of managing design to deliver cost savings and driving revenue growth.
- Solid track record of strategic accomplishments in companies experiencing rapid growth.
- Experience in building teams to scale rapidly in a dynamic environment.
- Extremely collaborative leader with flexibility and creativity.
- Strong executive presence and sense of urgency.
- Exceptional problem-solving and analytical skills; systematic thinker.
- Exceptional interpersonal, team building, and facilitation skills.
- Ability to effectively communicate and interact across diverse audiences.
