About the position

The VP of IoT Engineering at Sleep Number is a senior leadership role responsible for overseeing the design and development of the company's product electronics and software releases, particularly focusing on IoT systems. This position requires strategic leadership and operational expertise to drive innovation and ensure successful product launches, while fostering a high-performing engineering team aligned with the company's core values.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design and development of Sleep Number's product electronics and software releases.
• Drive resource and project planning for IoT engineering capabilities.
• Partner with cross-functional leaders to address operational and execution issues.
• Foster a team culture that aligns with Sleep Number's core values.
• Define and optimize the approach for research, development, and innovation.
• Participate in product direction setting and lead product improvements.
• Coach and lead efforts in capturing customer needs and defining user journeys.
• Establish controls and measurements for cross-functional projects.
• Lead the department's development and deployment processes to increase predictability of engineering deliverables.
• Provide technical expertise regarding patents and IP issues.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Data Science, or similar fields.
• 15+ years of leadership experience in professional services or delivering software and hardware products.
• Direct leadership experience of engineering and technical teams.
• Experience with IoT technology, including connected devices and wearables.
• Deep experience with Agile and Waterfall methodologies.
• Experience in electrical design and manufacturing.

Nice-to-haves

• Experience in regulated technology delivery in the IoT or medical device industry.
• Experience with cloud technologies (AWS, Azure, GCP) and mobile technologies (iOS, Android).
• Experience in human-centered design and Agile development methodologies.
