About the position
The Country Risk Manager at Cathay Bank is responsible for overseeing and managing the Country Risk program, ensuring compliance with regulations and industry best practices. This role involves developing policies, conducting risk assessments, and providing training to staff on country risk practices. The manager acts as a subject matter expert, contributing to the bank's risk management efforts and enhancing the organization's capabilities in managing country risk.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain policies and standards related to the country risk program.
- Conduct risk assessments to identify potential threats related to country risk.
- Monitor adherence to established policies and standards, taking corrective actions when necessary.
- Provide training and awareness programs on country risk practices.
- Generate reports on the effectiveness of country risk management efforts for senior management.
- Collaborate with the first line of defense to ensure a cohesive approach to risk management.
- Identify opportunities for enhancing the organization's country risk capabilities.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in finance, business administration, risk management, or a related field.
- Minimum five years of experience in country risk management.
- Experience in managing country risk projects, including planning and execution.
- Extensive knowledge of regulatory and industry best practices related to country risk.
- Strong analytical skills to assess risks and evaluate control measures.
- Excellent presentation skills and ability to propose effective recommendations.
Nice-to-haves
- Advanced degree or professional certification (e.g. FRM, CRMP, CFA) preferred.
- In-depth understanding of country risk management principles and frameworks.
