About the position

As the Vice President of Engineering / CTO at Vaco, you will play a pivotal role in shaping and implementing the technology strategy for a leading SaaS B2B company. This organization is dedicated to redefining how businesses manage job descriptions, providing a powerful and highly configurable solution that meets the needs of even the largest and most complex organizations. You will be a key member of the Senior Leadership Team, reporting directly to the CEO, and will be responsible for overseeing the Cloud Operations, IT, and Software Engineering teams. Your mission will be to ensure the security and uptime of cloud operations while continuing to enhance the industry-leading product. In this role, you will partner with the CEO and the Senior Leadership Team to establish clear priorities and goals for the Technical Team, balancing immediate operational needs with long-term strategic vision. You will provide oversight to the Directors of Cloud Operations and Software Engineering, ensuring that the teams meet their commitments related to uptime, cybersecurity, product quality, and innovation. Additionally, you will develop and improve operational strategies, metrics, and reporting for both Cloud Operations and Software Engineering functions. You will also be tasked with building a Product Team from the ground up, integrating it with the Software Engineering team, and working collaboratively to set a clear vision for the technical future of the company. Your leadership will be crucial in achieving SOC II Type 2 compliance starting in 2025, managing the Technical Team's annual budget, and facilitating the continual improvement of Disaster Recovery and Incident Response plans. Furthermore, you will foster a collaborative and engaging work environment that promotes high employee satisfaction and low turnover.

Responsibilities

  • Shape and implement the company's technology strategy.
  • Ensure security and uptime for cloud operations.
  • Develop and implement a comprehensive technology strategy aligned with the company's mission and objectives.
  • Provide support and oversight to the Director of Cloud Operations and IT.
  • Provide support and oversight to the Director of Software Engineering.
  • Develop and improve operational strategies, metrics, and reporting related to Cloud Operations and Software Engineering functions.
  • Collaborate with the CEO to build a Product Team from the ground up.
  • Work with the Director of Software Engineering and the Product Team to set a clear vision for the technical future.
  • Achieve SOC II Type 2 compliance starting in 2025.
  • Develop and manage the Technical Team's annual budget.
  • Facilitate the continual improvement of Disaster Recovery and Incident Response plans.
  • Manage the Technical Team resource allocation, goal/OKR setting, and performance metrics.
  • Provide regular performance feedback and one-on-one discussions with team members.
  • Ensure compliance with company standards and industry best practices.
  • Identify and manage risks associated with all technology operations and product development.
  • Foster an engaging, fun, collaborative, and performance-driven work environment.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of technical experience in a SaaS B2B software company.
  • 3+ years leading software engineering teams with a solid understanding of software engineering.
  • 3+ years leading cloud operations teams with a solid understanding of cloud engineering.
  • Experience leading SOC II Type 2 compliance at a software company.
  • Ability to identify and manage risks associated with all technology operations and product development.
  • Strong bias toward action and ability to solve problems autonomously.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent experience in computer science, software engineering, or related discipline.

  • Strong experience working with Microsoft Azure and Microsoft .NET technology.
  • Experience working with large customers (Fortune 1,000).
  • Experience working in B2B HR Technology with large enterprise customers.
