About the position

The Vice President of Project Finance at Sunrun is a leadership role focused on developing investor relationships and structuring financial partnerships to support renewable energy transactions. This position is crucial for driving the growth and profitability of the company by implementing innovative financing structures. The VP will manage a team within the Project Finance Group and report directly to the Head of Project Finance, playing a key role in deal management, due diligence, and financial modeling efforts.

Responsibilities

  • Lead in structuring, executing, and maintaining residential solar financings, collaborating with law firms and investment bankers for capital markets transactions.
  • Maintain existing relationships and develop new sources of tax equity, debt, and cash equity financing to support the company's development efforts.
  • Oversee project finance projections and analysis for the company.
  • Coordinate with various internal groups to complete third-party due diligence requests and develop expertise in the company's business practices.
  • Support treasury, budgeting, and financial planning to ensure alignment on financing obligations and expectations.
  • Engage in various aspects of the organization as part of an entrepreneurial finance team.

Requirements

  • 8-10 years of experience in power/energy/utilities with at least 3 years in the US renewables industry, preferably with a developer, investment firm, or investment bank.
  • Bachelor's degree required; MBA or Master's Degree preferred.
  • Experience in structuring, negotiating, and closing renewable energy financings, including tax equity partnerships and debt financings.
  • Proven ability to negotiate contracts, term sheets, and legal documents.
  • Strong financial modeling skills to support junior team members and develop talent.
  • Existing relationships with project finance and tax equity professionals in the sector.
  • Curiosity about distributed generation, storage technology, and power markets.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and quantitative skills, along with excellent people skills.
  • Understanding of solar + storage renewable energy systems at a commercial level.
  • Strong executive-level communication and presentation skills.
  • Proven leadership and mentoring abilities for junior employees.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities under pressure.
