About the position

The VP, Property Treaty Underwriter position is a pivotal role responsible for the development, marketing, and underwriting of US Property Treaty business. The successful candidate will not only focus on the skillful underwriting of programs but will also be a collaborative team player, contributing to the broader objectives of the team. Effective communication and project management skills are essential, as the role involves working closely with both external and internal stakeholders, including clients, brokers, SCOR teams, claims, actuarial, legal, strategy, and senior management. Candidates should be comfortable navigating open-ended challenges, demonstrating the ability to succinctly and confidently recommend solutions while understanding that the process to reach these solutions is as important as the outcomes themselves. The role includes client management responsibilities, necessitating strong communication skills and engagement across various supporting functions and lines of business. This position will be based in a SCOR office, either in Chicago or New York City, with the expectation of being in the office several days a week. SCOR promotes an “in-office” culture to foster collaboration, idea exchange, and stronger working relationships, while also providing flexibility through a hybrid working arrangement. Employees are expected to work three days a week in the office, with the option to work remotely for two days. The role encompasses various responsibilities, including underwriting, marketing, and account management, all aimed at supporting SCOR's strategic goals and enhancing client relationships.

Responsibilities

  • Evaluate new and renewal property treaty reinsurance programs
  • Structure and negotiate appropriate terms and conditions that support SCOR appetite
  • Evaluate and negotiate contract wording
  • Evaluate and negotiate pricing in conjunction with actuarial & modeler support
  • Monitor & adhere to cat capacity aggregations and allocations
  • Perform underwriting audits for current and potential clients
  • Discuss underwriting and management issues with executives at primary insurance client companies
  • Work with Client Managers to support management of client relationships
  • Actively monitor market trends and engage in strategic discussions with internal and external parties
  • Actively participate and contribute to internal projects
  • Attend marketing visits to broker offices and establish marketing presence
  • Identify clients that align with SCOR's appetite and are additive to the overall portfolio
  • Identify brokers that handle accounts that fit the SCOR underwriting targets
  • Attend industry conventions to promote SCOR and develop business relationships
  • Work collaboratively with all internal parties to manage individual deals and overall client relationships
  • Diligently maintain all documentation for assigned accounts as per SCOR guidelines
  • Understand and adhere to SCOR underwriting and pricing guidelines

Requirements

  • Minimum of 4-6 years of prior reinsurance underwriting/reinsurance broking experience or minimum of 7-10 years of primary underwriting
  • Strong knowledge of property (re)insurance market
  • Strong communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills
  • Willingness to travel up to 25% of the time and dedicate a considerable amount of time to develop broker and client relationships
  • Positive attitude and a willingness to contribute and work collaboratively in a fast-paced environment
  • Expertise in Cat XL underwriting a plus
  • Strong Microsoft office skills, particularly Excel
  • Working knowledge of Salesforce and Tableau a plus
  • Working knowledge of RMS and/or AIR a plus
  • Willingness to work collaboratively and mentor rising star talent
