About the position

CNN is seeking a Vice President of Revenue Analytics who will be instrumental in leading and fostering a culture of data informed decision-making across the key revenue generators of CNN - advertising, subscriptions, and our affiliate business, CNN Underscored. This individual should be self-motivated, work well independently and as part of a team, and be passionate about what they do. The role will be responsible for leading a team of analysts and researchers who help drive revenue through behavioral, quantitative and qualitative insights. The Vice President will report to the SVP of CNN Data Analytics, Science, and Insights.

Responsibilities

  • Develop and execute a comprehensive data strategy aligned with CNN's business objectives, focusing on revenue growth and market expansion.
  • Lead the creation of innovative, data-driven growth initiatives to identify new market opportunities and optimize existing revenue channels.
  • Establish and track key performance indicators (KPIs) related to user acquisition, activation, retention, and revenue metrics.
  • Collaborate with executive leadership to align growth priorities with overall business objectives, communicating progress, challenges, and opportunities.
  • Hire, develop, and lead a high-performing team of data analysts, data engineers, and data scientists who partner with product, engineering, strategy and finance teams.
  • Set and drive the analytic strategy of the Advertising, Subscriber Growth, and CNN Underscored groups, building programs to execute data analysis, experimentation, and dashboarding to directly drive business impact.
  • Direct the team in ingesting and organizing third party data for advertising and commerce teams, creating efficient data structures that facilitate analytics.
  • Partner with product, finance, and engineering teams to make data driven optimizations in the areas of the business that most directly generate revenue.
  • Evaluate existing and develop new metrics, reports, and dashboards for internal audiences; apply both quantitative disciplines and creativity to translate data into actionable insights through data visualization.
  • Create actionable daily and weekly reporting through daily health monitoring reports, proactively follow up with appropriate teams when data is outside of established thresholds, make recommendations based on business needs and priorities.
  • Define and validate data by working with business partners to ensure data quality and alignment with company-wide data logic/naming conventions.
  • Work with internal or external data partners to process, organize, and connect various data sources, including content metadata, behavioral user data, and third-party revenue and commerce data.
  • Create consistent and documented data definitions for key audience and engagement metrics.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of experience in data/analytics or related field.
  • 3+ years of experience in managing and building an analytics team, including experience as a leader of leaders.
  • Experience with BI tools (e.g. Looker, Domo, Tableau, etc.).
  • Significant experience using SQL to explore and analyze large data sets in cloud environments.
  • Experience with providing data requirements while working with structured and unstructured data sets.
  • 2+ years of experience in revenue analytics, either related to advertising or to subscription revenue.
  • A proven track record of providing actionable insights that drive business impact in the form of revenue or profit.

Nice-to-haves

  • BA/BS degree or higher in Math/Stats, Operations Research, Computer Science, Engineering, or other related quantitative field.
  • Experience with digital media data, either web or mobile.
  • Experience with writing Python and R scripts.
  • Strong background in experimentation and statistics.
  • Experience with data integration or ETL processing related projects.
  • Experience with dbt.
