About the position

The VP of Risk Management at Banner Health is responsible for providing strategic and operational leadership in enterprise risk management, claims and litigation management, risk finance, clinical risk management, and patient relations. This role aims to develop and implement robust risk management strategies to enhance healthcare delivery and ensure safety and excellence in operations. The position offers a hybrid/remote work opportunity for candidates residing in the greater Arizona area.

Responsibilities

• Oversees enterprise risk management (ERM) program, including risk assessment and quantification.
• Develops industry-leading risk mitigation and reduction strategies.
• Collaborates with senior leadership to drive an enterprise-wide approach to ERM.
• Manages the Company's liability claims and litigation portfolio, ensuring cost-effective management.
• Ensures a comprehensive risk financing program, including commercial insurance and self-insurance programs.
• Oversees the administration of the Company's captive insurance company and budget.
• Implements methods to improve clinical risk management, quality, and patient safety.
• Provides reports to senior leadership and the Board of Directors regarding ERM matters.
• Establishes long-range and annual strategic initiatives and manages operations within budget.
• Supervises the development and execution of relevant policies and procedures.

Requirements

• Juris Doctorate and admission to at least one state bar, with the ability to gain admission to the Arizona state bar.
• Seven to ten years of management-level experience within a healthcare system or large corporate environment.
• Experience in risk management and medical professional liability management, either as in-house claims professional or outside counsel.
• Demonstrated success in managing a portfolio of claims and driving strategic clinical and claims risk management.
• Deep understanding of enterprise risk management and in-house liability claims processes.
