About the position

The Vice President, Senior Software Development Engineering Manager is responsible for leading a large team of engineers in the architecture, design, building, and testing of mission-critical applications across all layers of the tech stack. This role requires deep expertise in software engineering and microservice architecture, along with the ability to influence and manage a large team. The position focuses on the engineering delivery of the Synapps credit underwriting system at Synchrony, ensuring compliance with architecture and technology standards while fostering a collaborative and innovative environment.

Responsibilities

  • Manage a large team of software engineers, including managing managers.
  • Influence and lead multiple agile teams through all phases of the Agile development life cycle using Large Solution SAFE.
  • Establish application architecture standards and best practices for Java microservices.
  • Assist developers in migrating to new technologies and implement new technologies.
  • Collaborate with software developers, product managers, application architects, and customer application experts to create applications.
  • Mentor and influence all levels of the team, providing direction and support.
  • Ensure compliance with architecture, security, and technology standards set by Synchrony Financial.
  • Craft and maintain the future state technology architectural strategy and application modernization roadmap.
  • Ensure application code quality through development, testing, and QA processes.
  • Participate in addressing root cause analyses and incident reports, providing direction in problem resolution.
  • Analyze production defects, troubleshoot systems, identify root causes, and implement fixes.
  • Provide 24x7 on-call support periodically throughout the year.
  • Identify ways to increase efficiency and improve system performance.

Requirements

  • A minimum of 7 years of experience with software engineering.
  • A minimum of 3 years of people management experience.
  • A minimum of 3 years of credit underwriting technology experience.
  • Experience in the Synapps engineering environment.
  • Solid people management skills, including providing direction and monitoring performance.
  • Experience with continuous integration environments.
  • Strong experience with Pivotal Cloud Foundry.
  • Experience using Splunk for production support.
  • Familiarity with JSON, REST, and XML based web services.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with the ability to influence clients and team members.
