About the position

The VP, Senior Underwriter at Odyssey Reinsurance Company is a pivotal role responsible for leading the underwriting department and overseeing its planning and marketing activities. This position involves the development of underwriting guidelines, establishment of departmental objectives, and the creation of procedures for underwriting analysis, production, and staff management. The VP will evaluate and authorize all business referred by underwriting staff, recommend levels of underwriting authority, and provide guidance in interpreting and implementing underwriting policies. In this role, the VP will participate in executive management and operational planning, providing leadership and direction to underwriters and department managers. They will ensure alignment with the company's corporate mission, performance goals, profitability, and corporate culture. The VP will also develop and monitor the company's underwriting philosophies and strategies, ensuring their effective implementation across various lines of business, products, and services. Additionally, the VP will manage and oversee existing key client relationships at both executive and corporate levels, ensuring that marketing intelligence is collected, centralized, communicated, and acted upon by the underwriting staff. This will help identify and develop business opportunities for the company while ensuring client recognition and servicing. The VP will perform underwriting analysis of potential clients, assessing their experience, exposure, management, rates, coverage, financial market, and competitors to determine profit potential. Furthermore, they will market reinsurance services to current and prospective clients through various channels, including sales meetings, industry memberships, seminars, and speeches, to gain profitable portfolios and foster positive relationships.

Responsibilities

  • College degree or equivalent.
  • Knowledge of the reinsurance industry, including coverages, rate making process, risk exposures, and contracts.
  • Minimum of 10 years in reinsurance.
