About the position

Compeer Financial is seeking a Vice President of Tax and Accounting to lead and direct its tax and accounting program. This role is pivotal in providing strategic direction for product and service delivery, ensuring alignment with Compeer's business growth and profitability targets. The incumbent will create a performance-driven environment that optimizes strategy execution while supporting Compeer's culture blueprint. The VP will define the strategic direction and goals for the tax and accounting team, ensuring that talent recruitment, retention, and development are aligned with the defined business objectives. In this leadership position, the VP will directly oversee the tax and accounting management team, fostering collaboration and coordination with other senior leaders across operations, human resources, finance, legal, compliance, marketing, and business technology. This collaboration aims to optimize the performance of the business unit. The VP will also be responsible for providing timely communication regarding Compeer and the tax and accounting team's priorities, metrics, accountability, results, and recognition. A critical aspect of this role is ensuring that the team possesses sufficient technical expertise to deliver tax and accounting services to agricultural clients and producers in a differentiated manner.

Responsibilities

  • Develop, implement, and direct Compeer's tax and accounting program.
  • Provide strategic direction regarding product and service delivery in alignment with business growth and profitability targets.
  • Create a performance environment that optimizes strategy execution and supports Compeer's culture blueprint.
  • Define the tax and accounting team's strategic direction and goals.
  • Ensure talent recruitment, retention, and development to achieve defined business objectives.
  • Directly lead and develop the tax and accounting management team.
  • Collaborate with senior leaders in operations, human resources, finance, legal, compliance, marketing, and business technology to optimize business unit performance.
  • Provide timely communication around Compeer and tax and accounting including team priorities, metrics, accountability, results, and recognition.
  • Ensure sufficient technical expertise within the business unit to deliver tax and accounting expertise to agricultural clients.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in business administration, accounting, finance, economics, agribusiness, or related field.
  • Minimum 10 years of experience in accounting, finance, insurance, or business management.
  • Five to seven years of leadership and management experience preferred.
  • Certified Public Accounting (CPA) certification or Enrolled Agent (EA) certification preferred.
  • Knowledge of federal and state laws, regulations, and compliance requirements specific to the financial industry and Farm Credit.
  • Strong leadership skills to select, evaluate, engage, motivate, mentor, train, delegate, reward, and lead team members.
  • Excellent listening, written, and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong problem-solving, decision-making, and organizational skills.
  • Strong analytical skills with attention to detail.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively with other teams.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience in agribusiness is a plus.
  • Familiarity with customer relationship management (CRM) programs.
