About the position

The Scrum Master position at VSP is a critical role that requires a seasoned professional to lead Agile teams in a dynamic environment. The candidate will be responsible for facilitating Agile ceremonies, including Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Retrospectives, Sprint Demos, Story Refinement, and Release Planning. This role demands a thorough understanding of the Agile software development life cycle and hands-on experience working with development teams to ensure adherence to Agile principles and methodologies. The Scrum Master will collaborate closely with product owners and various teams to understand their needs and translate them into actionable requirements, fostering a high-performing Agile culture within the organization. In this position, the Scrum Master will also be tasked with tracking team performance metrics, reporting on team velocity, and supporting continuous improvement initiatives that enhance productivity. The role requires the ability to anticipate challenges, identify risks, and recommend effective solutions to mitigate them. The Scrum Master will serve as a servant leader, exemplifying a Lean-Agile mindset and protecting the team from outside interruptions and distractions. Building strong relationships between the Scrum Team and product owners, as well as other stakeholders, is essential for success in this role. The ideal candidate will have a proven track record of providing collaboration, facilitation, leadership, and coaching to Scrum Teams, ensuring that they are effective and engaged. The Scrum Master will also aid the product owner in managing the product backlog and prioritizing tasks based on changing requirements and project timelines. This position is on-site in Midlothian, VA, and requires candidates to be comfortable with in-person interviews and collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Facilitate Agile ceremonies such as Sprint Planning, Daily Standups, Retrospectives, Sprint Demos, Story Refinement, and Release Planning.
• Collaborate with product owners and teams to understand and translate their needs into requirements.
• Track and report team velocity and other project metrics.
• Support the Scrum Team and the scrum process through collaboration, facilitation, leadership, and coaching.
• Aid the product owner in managing the product backlog and prioritizing tasks based on changing requirements.
• Establish an effective working environment for the teams and help remove obstacles.
• Protect the team from outside interruptions and distractions.
• Ensure a good relationship between the team and product owner, as well as other stakeholders.
• Exemplify a Lean-Agile mindset through servant leadership.
• Anticipate challenges, identify risks, and recommend mitigations and solutions.
• Promote continuous improvement to increase the productivity of the Scrum Team.

Requirements

• Practical experience serving as Scrum Master with a solid comprehension of Agile values, principles, methodologies, and the development lifecycle (10 years).
• Thorough understanding of Agile software development life cycle and hands-on experience working with development teams (7 years).
• Experience coordinating Agile ceremonies (7 years).
• Ability to track progress of team performance utilizing appropriate metrics (5 years).
• Strong collaboration, facilitation, leadership, and coaching skills (10 years).
• Ability to analyze and document business and system processes (7 years).
• CSM Certification required. PSM Certification preferred.
