About the position

The VSP Web Developer (WordPress) position is a contract role focused on enhancing and securing six WordPress applications for the Virginia State Police. The developer will work closely with stakeholders to support the agency's mission in highway safety, emergency messaging, and recruitment. This role requires a hybrid work arrangement with a strong emphasis on onsite presence, as the team generally works four days a week in the office.

Responsibilities

• Build new features and services across the full stack in WordPress.
• Develop solutions in WordPress that support positive, accessible user experiences in both desktop and mobile environments.
• Perform debugging and security remediations for public-facing applications.
• Work with agile development methodologies, adhering to best practices, and pursue continued learning opportunities.

Requirements

• Demonstrated expertise in WordPress application development.
• Proficiency in PHP coding and debugging.
• Proficiency in front-end technologies like HTML, CSS, and JavaScript.
• Understanding of SQL and REST API.
• Proven knowledge of back-end/infrastructure maintenance and optimization and UX/UI principles.
• Proven knowledge of secure coding practices.
• Ability to work as a team member on web development projects end-to-end.
• Outstanding communication skills.
• Any combination of education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's degree in information sciences, computer science, or a related field; considerable software implementation experience.
