About the position

The VTH Purchasing Manager is responsible for oversight of the day-to-day operations of the Veterinary Teaching Hospital warehouse, materials purchasing, cost reduction measures, vendor management, and inventory management. In addition, this position supervises the daily activities of warehouse staff, creates billing codes, and oversees the hospital mail room.

Responsibilities

  • Research and negotiate best rates with vendors.
  • Plan, prepare, and process purchase requests for inventory and non-inventory items for the teaching hospital using VetView, UGAmart, and a UGA P-card.
  • Manage the warehouse to schedule and assign work for service/maintenance staff, performing personnel actions such as hiring, terminations, training, performance evaluations, and organizing payroll/time sheets.
  • Developing policies and procedures within a given functional area.
  • Monitor, analyze, and adjust inventory levels in order to maintain optimum levels in coordination with hospital needs and usage.
  • Ensure chargeable items have a VetView code in order to appropriately maintain up to date pricing for all consumables and pharmaceuticals acquired.
  • Receive decentralized P.O. items, address delivery errors and damaged goods, and communicate issues to vendors and approve returns.
  • Assist procurement, accounts payable, and central receiving on a daily basis with any questions/issues regarding pricing, invoices, and receiving.

Requirements

  • Requires at least a baccalaureate degree in the field.
  • Intermediate skill in using multiple windows-based software applications.
  • Advanced knowledge of VetView, UGAmart, mail distribution methods, and P-Card requirements.
  • Competency in devising inventory control measures within a 24/7 hospital.
  • Excellent organization and time management skills.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with various departments.

Nice-to-haves

  • A baccalaureate degree in a related field is preferred.
