About the position

The Preschool Special Education Teacher at Wailuku Elementary is responsible for teaching preschool children in a fully self-contained classroom setting. This role requires a commitment to providing high-quality education to students with special needs, ensuring they receive the support and resources necessary for their development.

Responsibilities

  • Teach preschool students in a self-contained classroom setting.
  • Develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs) for students with special needs.
  • Collaborate with parents, staff, and specialists to support student learning and development.
  • Assess and monitor student progress and adjust teaching strategies accordingly.
  • Maintain a safe and nurturing classroom environment.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or related field.
  • Valid Hawaii teaching license or Emergency Hire Permit upon hire.
  • Completion of a Teacher's Education Program within three years of hire if not already completed.
  • Demonstrated commitment to pursuing Hawaii licensing requirements.

Nice-to-haves

  • Experience working with preschool-aged children with special needs.
  • National Board Certification in Education.
  • Familiarity with special education laws and regulations.

Benefits

  • Salary range of $51,835.00 - $72,941.00 annually.
  • $10,000 salary differential for Special Education with Hawaii teaching license.
  • $5,000 salary differential for National Board Certification.
