About the position

The Waimanalo Elementary and Intermediate School is seeking a dedicated Grade 6-8 Special Education Teacher for the 2024-2025 academic year. This position is integral to our mission of providing students with opportunities to build strong relationships and develop career readiness skills in a safe learning environment. The ideal candidate will be committed to effective instruction, rigorous curriculum, and the integration of technology to enhance student learning. The teacher will be responsible for creating a supportive and engaging classroom environment that accommodates diverse learning styles and needs, ensuring that all students are actively engaged in the learning process. As a Special Education Teacher, you will work closely with students who have varying degrees of disabilities, tailoring your instructional approaches to meet their individual needs. You will collaborate with other educators, parents, and support staff to develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) that promote student success. Your role will also involve assessing student progress, adapting teaching methods, and utilizing a variety of instructional strategies to foster a positive learning experience. Responsibilities

  • Develop and implement Individualized Education Programs (IEPs) for students with disabilities.
  • Adapt teaching methods and instructional materials to meet the varying needs of students.
  • Collaborate with general education teachers and support staff to ensure inclusive education.
  • Assess student progress and adjust instructional strategies accordingly.
  • Create a safe and supportive classroom environment that promotes student engagement.
  • Communicate effectively with parents and guardians regarding student progress and needs.
  • Participate in professional development and training to enhance teaching skills.
  • Engage with the school community to foster positive relationships.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Education or a related field.
  • Valid Hawaii teaching license or Emergency Hire Permit upon hire.
  • Completion of a Teacher's Education Program within three years of hire if not already completed.
  • Demonstrated commitment to meeting Hawaii licensing requirements as set forth by the Hawaii Teacher Standards Board.
