About the position

As a Warehouse Automation Mechanical Engineer at Ashley, you will play a pivotal role in transforming our distribution centers into Smart Warehouses. This position offers a unique opportunity to work on industry-leading projects that involve designing high-speed automated equipment and utilizing advanced robotics, PLC programming, and both 2D and 3D modeling applications. You will lead the development of custom automated solutions, collaborating with cross-functional teams to ensure seamless integration of mechanical systems with electrical and software components. Your expertise will not only guide the technical aspects of projects but also mentor junior engineers, fostering their professional growth while overseeing the entire project lifecycle. In this role, you will be responsible for designing, developing, and implementing mechanical components of automated warehouse systems. This includes creating detailed mechanical engineering plans, CAD models, and system layouts, as well as specifying and selecting mechanical components and equipment for automated systems. You will work closely with suppliers to source and evaluate mechanical parts and machinery, oversee the installation and integration of mechanical systems with automation technology, and ensure that all systems are tested and validated for functionality and reliability. Your responsibilities will also include troubleshooting mechanical issues during testing and commissioning phases, developing maintenance schedules and procedures, and monitoring system performance to optimize efficiency and reliability. You will participate in project meetings to provide insights and updates, document all mechanical designs and processes for compliance, and ensure adherence to safety regulations and industry standards. Additionally, you will manage mechanical engineering projects, setting timelines and tracking progress to ensure timely completion while continuously seeking feedback to improve system designs and performance.

Responsibilities

  • Design, develop, and implement mechanical components of automated warehouse systems.
  • Create detailed mechanical engineering plans, CAD models, and system layouts.
  • Specify and select mechanical components and equipment for automated systems.
  • Work with suppliers to source and evaluate mechanical parts and machinery.

  • Develop maintenance schedules and procedures for mechanical systems.
  • Monitor system performance and make necessary adjustments to optimize efficiency and reliability.
  • Work closely with cross-functional teams, including electrical engineers, software developers, and operations staff, to design and implement automation solutions.
  • Participate in project meetings to provide mechanical engineering insights and updates.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for mechanical aspects of automated systems.
  • Assist in diagnosing and resolving mechanical failures and performance issues.
  • Train warehouse staff on the operation and maintenance of mechanical systems.
  • Document all mechanical designs, processes, procedures, and changes for future reference and compliance purposes.
  • Ensure all mechanical designs and implementations comply with safety regulations and industry standards.
  • Conduct regular audits to ensure adherence to mechanical design standards and practices.
  • Manage mechanical engineering projects, including setting timelines, tracking progress, and ensuring timely completion.
  • Coordinate with project managers and other stakeholders to align mechanical engineering efforts with overall warehouse automation goals.
  • Stay updated on the latest developments in mechanical engineering and automation technology.
  • Continuously seek feedback from users and stakeholders to improve mechanical system designs and performance.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • Proven experience in mechanical engineering, particularly in automated systems.
  • Strong proficiency in CAD software for mechanical design.
  • Experience with PLC programming and robotics is highly desirable.
  • Ability to work collaboratively in cross-functional teams.
  • Excellent problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
  • Strong communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and meet deadlines.
