About the position

The Lead Engineer position at Ryder focuses on supporting the Continuous Improvement (CI) culture across the business by applying continuous improvement methods to enhance operations. This role involves identifying and driving change through data-driven CI, engineering, and automation efforts to improve performance in safety, quality, delivery, cost, and growth. The Lead Engineer will leverage data analytics and engineering methodologies to facilitate root cause identification and elimination, while also managing CI resources and collaborating with various levels of the organization.

Responsibilities

  • Collect data and perform statistical analysis.
  • Map and document processes.
  • Independently identify process gaps and recommend improvements.
  • Develop and execute a continuous improvement plan to drive customer value.
  • Drive process improvement activities to enhance safety, quality, delivery, cost, and employee development.
  • Manage and complete high-impact CI projects to improve business results.
  • Assess CI initiatives and provide recommendations for future activities.
  • Support start-ups, retrofits, and expansions, including pricing inputs and certifications.
  • Identify and support automation projects.
  • Interact regularly with account management and customers.
  • Coach employees in CI, Quality Assurance, and Lean principles.
  • Apply engineering methodologies to improve operations.
  • Supervise continuous improvement engineering and quality professionals.
  • Participate in employment decisions and manage performance.
  • Facilitate Value Stream Maps and Kaizen Events.
  • Coach process owners on lean methods to achieve operational excellence.
  • Provide regular reports on data and actions to measure progress against objectives.
  • Make inventory and supply chain strategy recommendations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or Supply Chain and seven years of related experience, or a Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or Supply Chain Management with five years of related experience.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Intermediate proficiency in data visualization tools (PowerBI, Tableau) and database programming (SQL, DAX).
  • Advanced understanding of core engineering and data analysis functions (slotting, utilization, labor planning, layouts, metrics).
  • Advanced knowledge of warehouse design tools (e.g., AutoCAD, Slot3D) and Warehouse Management Systems (e.g., Manhattan Scale).
  • Knowledge of material handling solutions and automation types (e.g., powered industrial truck applications, conveyor systems).
  • Lean Six Sigma certification required; cPMP, ISO/QMS preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of Dedicated Services and Managed Transportation Networks.
  • Familiarity with Transportation Design Tools (e.g., JDA, Appian) and Network Design Tools (e.g., Llamasoft).
  • APICS and/or Supply Chain Logistics Certification preferred.
