About the position

The Lead Engineer position at Ryder focuses on supporting the Continuous Improvement (CI) culture across the business by applying continuous improvement methods to enhance operations. This role involves identifying and driving change through data-driven CI, engineering, and automation efforts to improve performance in safety, quality, delivery, cost, and growth. The Lead Engineer will work closely with various levels of employees and may manage CI resources, reporting to the CI Manager or Sr. CI Manager, while collaborating with General Managers or Directors of Operations.

Responsibilities

  • Collect data and perform statistical analysis.
  • Map and document processes.
  • Independently identify process gaps and recommend improvements.
  • Develop and execute a continuous improvement plan to drive customer value.
  • Drive process improvement activities to enhance key business metrics.
  • Manage and complete high-impact CI projects across operations.
  • Assess CI initiatives and provide recommendations for future activities.
  • Support start-ups, retrofits, and expansions, including pricing inputs and certifications.
  • Identify and support automation projects.
  • Interact regularly with account management and customers.
  • Coach employees in CI, Quality Assurance, and Lean principles.
  • Apply engineering methodologies/tools to improve operations.
  • Supervise continuous improvement engineering and quality professionals.
  • Participate in employment decisions and manage performance.
  • Facilitate and execute Value Stream Maps and Kaizen Events.
  • Coach process owners on lean methods for operational excellence.
  • Provide regular reports on data and actions to measure progress against objectives.
  • Make inventory and supply chain strategy recommendations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or Supply Chain and seven years of related experience, or a Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or Supply Chain Management with five years of related experience.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Intermediate proficiency in data visualization tools (PowerBI, Tableau) and database programming (SQL, DAX).
  • Advanced understanding of core engineering and data analysis functions.
  • Advanced knowledge of warehouse design tools and warehouse management systems.
  • Knowledge of material handling solutions and automation types.
  • Knowledge of Dedicated Services and Managed Transportation Networks.
  • Advanced knowledge of transportation design tools and mapping software.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification required; cPMP, ISO/QMS preferred.

Nice-to-haves

  • Intermediate proficiency in developing and managing Leader Standard Work, Visual Management Systems, and Management Accountability Systems.
  • Knowledge of warehouse types and Lean methods.
  • Knowledge of all available equipment types in transportation.
