About the position

The Warehouse Lead Industrial Engineer at Ryder System Inc. plays a pivotal role in fostering a culture of continuous improvement across the organization. This position is designed to support both new and existing operations by actively applying continuous improvement methodologies. The Lead Engineer will be responsible for identifying, leading, and driving change within the operation through data-driven continuous improvement, engineering, and automation efforts. The ultimate goal is to enhance performance in key areas such as safety, quality, delivery, cost, and growth. This high-influence role requires effective interaction with employees at all levels and functions within the operation, ensuring that continuous improvement initiatives are well-integrated into the company’s operational framework. In this role, the Lead Engineer will collect data and perform statistical analyses to map and document processes. They will independently identify process gaps and recommend improvements, developing a comprehensive continuous improvement plan that drives value for customers. The Lead Engineer will manage and complete high-impact continuous improvement projects that lead to improved business results, providing input and recommendations on future activities. They will also support start-ups, retrofits, and expansions, including pricing inputs and certifications, while identifying and supporting automation projects. The Lead Engineer will demonstrate a high level of competency in a wide range of engineering methods, lean tools, and quality standards, coaching employees in the implementation of continuous improvement and quality assurance principles. They will apply various engineering methodologies and tools to improve distribution and transportation operations, and may supervise continuous improvement engineering and quality professionals. Regular reporting of data and actions to measure progress against site objectives will be essential, along with making recommendations for inventory and supply chain strategies.

Responsibilities

  • Collect data and perform statistical analysis to identify process gaps and recommend improvements.
  • Develop and execute a continuous improvement plan to drive value for customers.
  • Manage and complete high-impact continuous improvement projects across the operation.
  • Support start-ups, retrofits, and expansions, including pricing inputs and certifications.
  • Identify and support automation projects within the operation.
  • Coach employees in the use and implementation of continuous improvement and lean principles.
  • Facilitate and execute Value Stream Maps and Kaizen Events, ensuring follow-up on sustainment.
  • Provide regular reports of data and actions to measure progress against site objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or Supply Chain and seven years of related work experience; or a Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or Supply Chain Management with five years of related experience.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Advanced understanding of engineering methods and data analysis functions such as slotting, utilization, and labor planning.
  • Proficiency in developing and managing Lean tools and quality standards, including PDCA and Value Stream Mapping.
  • Knowledge of warehouse management operations, data analytics, and industrial engineering principles.

Nice-to-haves

  • Intermediate skills in data visualization tools such as PowerBI and Tableau.
  • Experience with warehouse design tools like AutoCAD and slotting software.
  • Knowledge of material handling solutions and automation types.
  • Certifications such as Lean Six Sigma, cPMP, ISO/QMS, and APICS.
