About the position

The Lead Continuous Improvement Engineer plays a pivotal role in supporting Ryder's Continuous Improvement culture across the business. This position is responsible for actively applying continuous improvement methods to enhance both new and existing operations. The Lead Engineer will identify, lead, and drive change within the operation through data-driven Continuous Improvement (CI), Engineering, and Automation efforts, aiming to deliver higher levels of performance in safety, quality, delivery, cost, and growth. This high-influence role requires effective interaction with employees at all levels and functions across the operation, and may involve managing CI resources. The position reports to the CI Manager or Senior CI Manager and is closely aligned with a General Manager or Director of Operations. In this role, the Lead Engineer will collect data and perform statistical analysis, map and document processes, and independently identify process gaps. They will recommend and implement process improvements, developing a thorough and effective continuous improvement plan to drive value for customers. The Lead Engineer will manage and complete high-impact CI projects that lead to improved business results, assess CI initiatives, and provide input and recommendations on future activities. They will also support start-ups, retrofits, and expansions, including pricing inputs, go-live, and steady-state certifications, while identifying and supporting Automation projects. The Lead Engineer will demonstrate a high level of competency in a wide range of engineering methods, Lean tools, and quality standards, coaching employees in the use and implementation of CI, Quality Assurance, and Lean principles. They will apply engineering methodologies and tools to improve distribution and transportation operations, supervise continuous improvement engineering and quality professionals, and participate in employment decisions. Regular reporting of data and actions to measure progress against site objectives is also a key responsibility, along with making inventory and supply chain strategy recommendations.

Responsibilities

  • Provide regular reports of data and actions to measure progress against site objectives.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or Supply Chain and seven years of related work experience, or a Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or Supply Chain Management with five years of related experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Advanced understanding and experience in core engineering and data analysis functions.
  • Proficiency in developing and managing Lean tools and methodologies such as PDCA, Value Stream Mapping, and Kaizen.
  • Knowledge of Warehouse Management operations and data analytics.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency in SAP WMS.
  • Data visualization skills using PowerBI or Tableau.
  • Database programming skills (SQL, DAX, etc.).
  • Experience with warehouse design tools such as AutoCAD and slotting tools.
  • Knowledge of material handling solutions and automation types.
