About the position

The Warehouse Manager/Purchasing Agent is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of the warehouse, ensuring efficient inventory management, stock control, and order fulfillment. This dual-role position also involves handling the purchasing of plumbing and HVAC materials, managing vendor relationships, and providing excellent customer service while ensuring cost-effective procurement.

Responsibilities

  • Oversee the daily operations of the warehouse, including receiving, storage, and distribution of plumbing and heating products.
  • Ensure proper organization of the warehouse, with clear labeling, appropriate shelving, and optimized space utilization.
  • Maintain accurate inventory levels, track stock movements, and conduct regular inventory counts to minimize discrepancies.
  • Coordinate the shipping and receiving of products, ensuring timely delivery and pickup of materials.
  • Manage returns and damaged goods, ensuring proper documentation and processing.
  • Work closely with suppliers to source and purchase plumbing and heating equipment, tools, parts, and materials.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with vendors to negotiate pricing, lead times, and delivery schedules.
  • Monitor stock levels to prevent overstocking or stockouts, using historical data and sales forecasts to inform purchasing decisions.
  • Place orders for materials and supplies, ensuring the best price, quality, and delivery terms.
  • Review product quality, and evaluate vendors based on performance, reliability, and price competitiveness.
  • Maintain purchase records, track spending, and ensure compliance with the company's budget.
  • Serve as the primary point of contact between the warehouse, suppliers, and internal teams.
  • Communicate with technicians and dispatching staff to ensure timely order fulfillment and resolve any supply chain issues.
  • Provide regular reports on inventory status, ordering trends, and purchasing activities to management.
  • Identify and implement process improvements to streamline warehouse operations, reduce costs, and enhance efficiency.
  • Stay up to date on industry trends and products related to plumbing and heating.
  • Recommend new products and materials for stocking to meet customer needs and business goals.

Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • Prior experience in warehouse management, purchasing or related field is a plus, but not required.
  • Familiarity with plumbing and heating products, tools and equipment is helpful, but not essential.
  • Strong work ethic, organization skills, and a desire to take on responsibility.
  • Strong organizational and time management skills.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Self-motivated, and detail oriented.
  • Ability to negotiate with suppliers and manage vendor relationships.
  • Proficient with inventory management software and basic accounting principles.
  • Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs), stand for extended periods, and perform tasks in a warehouse environment.

Nice-to-haves

  • A degree in supply chain management, business, or a related field is preferred, not required.
