About the position

The Warehouse Operations Manager I is responsible for overseeing the daily operations of a warehouse, focusing on personnel management and the implementation of operational plans. This role involves managing a warehouse space of 100,000 to 500,000 square feet, ensuring efficient shipping and receiving processes, and maintaining compliance with safety and operational standards. The position requires collaboration with the General Manager to optimize warehouse efficiency and financial performance while fostering employee development and safety initiatives.

Responsibilities

  • Develops a strategic plan in conjunction with the General Manager to ensure efficient and cost-effective operations.
  • Ensures efficient shipping and receiving work schedules to meet operational goals.
  • Directs the operations of warehouse supervisors and personnel.
  • Oversees all inbound and outbound shipments to ensure accuracy and timeliness.
  • Audits compliance with internal and external SOPs.
  • Ensures efficient utilization of equipment and resources.
  • Reviews daily work objectives and determines productivity requirements.
  • Partners with other leaders to balance labor and staffing needs.
  • Conducts analysis of workload compared to labor hours and equipment.
  • Plans long-term labor needs based on sales forecasts and historical data.
  • Makes recommendations to improve warehouse operations to the General Manager.
  • Understands the financial impact of daily decisions and learns budgeting and forecasting.
  • Runs productivity and labor reports to analyze performance gaps.
  • Ensures daily pre-shift meetings cover productivity and operational issues.
  • Supports hiring and onboarding of new employees.
  • Communicates department and individual performance goals effectively.
  • Manages human resources practices and resolves employee relation issues.
  • Provides coaching and feedback to enhance skill development.
  • Acts as a role model supporting corporate values and vision.
  • Participates in safety initiatives and ensures compliance with safety standards.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's Degree in Supply Chain, Business, or related field preferred.
  • 5+ years of supervisory experience in a warehouse or distribution environment.
  • Experience with Warehouse Management Systems (Manhattan preferred).
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications.
  • Familiarity with warehouse/mechanical equipment.
  • Knowledge of OSHA, DOT, HAZMAT, FDA regulations, and willingness to become certified.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and handle changing priorities.
  • Experience with performance metrics, process improvement, and Lean/Six Sigma tools is a plus.
  • Excellent talent management and team building skills.
  • Strong verbal, non-verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Excellent customer service skills, particularly with external clients.
  • Strong analytical and mathematical skills.
  • Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred.
  • Ability to work irregular or extended hours, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

  • Experience with seasonal workforces is a plus.
