About the position

The Warehouse Senior Industrial Engineer position at Ryder System is a pivotal role that supports the company's Continuous Improvement (CI) culture across various operations. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about applying continuous improvement methodologies to enhance both new and existing operations. The engineer will be responsible for identifying and driving change within the operation through data-driven CI, engineering, and automation efforts, ultimately aiming to achieve higher performance levels in safety, quality, delivery, and cost. The role requires effective utilization of data analytics, engineering methodologies, and advanced lean tools to facilitate root cause identification and elimination, ensuring that operations run smoothly and efficiently. In this role, the engineer will collect data and perform statistical analyses, mapping and documenting processes to independently identify process gaps. They will recommend and implement process improvements, developing and managing a comprehensive continuous improvement plan that drives value for customers. The engineer will also manage and complete CI and steady-state engineering projects that lead to improved business results, providing input and recommendations on future CI initiatives. Regular interaction with operations management and customers is expected, as well as support for go-live and steady-state certifications. The engineer will be expected to develop and demonstrate competency in a wide range of engineering methods, lean tools, and quality standards, coaching employees in the implementation of CI, Quality Assurance, and Lean principles. They will apply various engineering methodologies and tools, such as product slotting, labor standards studies, and resource modeling, to improve distribution and transportation operations. Additionally, the engineer will facilitate and execute Value Stream Maps and Kaizen Events, ensuring that process owners are equipped to use lean methods to achieve operational excellence. Regular reporting of data and actions to measure progress against site objectives is a key responsibility, along with making recommendations regarding inventory and supply chain strategies. The role also includes designing, implementing, monitoring, and maintaining the Quality Management System (QMS) based on established company and industry standards, supporting regulatory compliance and certification requirements, and performing all functions related to Quality Assurance for start-ups or expansions.

Responsibilities

  • Collect data and perform statistical analysis.

  • Drive process improvement activities to achieve tangible improvements in safety, quality, delivery, cost, and employee development.
  • Manage and complete CI and steady-state engineering projects that lead to improved business results.
  • Assess CI initiatives and provide input and recommendations on future activities.
  • Support go-live and steady-state certifications.
  • Identify and support Automation projects.
  • Regularly interact with operations management and/or customers.
  • Develop and demonstrate competency in engineering methods, Lean tools, and quality standards.
  • Coach employees in the use and implementation of CI, Quality Assurance, and Lean principles.
  • Apply engineering methodologies/tools to improve distribution and/or transportation operations.
  • Facilitate and execute Value Stream Maps and Kaizen Events.
  • Provide regular reports of data and actions to measure progress against site objectives.
  • Make inventory and/or supply chain strategy recommendations.
  • Design, implement, monitor, and maintain the QMS based on established standards.
  • Implement and monitor a standardized corrective action system.
  • Support regulatory compliance and certification requirements.
  • Perform all functions related to Quality Assurance for a start-up or expansion.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or Supply Chain and five years of related work experience in the Warehousing, Transportation, or Manufacturing industry; or a Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or Supply Chain Management and three years of related experience.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Intermediate skills in data visualization (PowerBI, Tableau) and database programming (SQL, DAX).
  • Functional experience in developing and managing Leader Standard Work, Visual Management Systems, and Management Accountability Systems.
  • Understanding and experience in core engineering and data analysis functions such as slotting, utilization, labor planning, layouts, and metrics.
  • Intermediate knowledge of warehouse design tools such as CAD (e.g., AutoCAD), slotting (e.g., Slot3D), and Warehouse Management Systems (e.g., Manhattan Scale).
  • Knowledge of Warehouse Management operations, data analytics, Industrial Engineering, and Lean methods.
  • Knowledge of material handling solutions and automation types, including powered industrial truck applications and conveyor systems.

  • Lean Six Sigma certification preferred.
  • cPMP certification preferred.
  • ISO/QMS knowledge preferred.
  • APICS and/or Supply Chain Logistics Certification preferred.
