About the position

The Warehouse Senior Industrial Engineer position at Ryder System is a pivotal role that supports the company's Continuous Improvement culture across various operations. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about applying continuous improvement methods to enhance both new and existing operations. The engineer will play a crucial role in identifying and driving change within the operation through data-driven continuous improvement (CI), engineering, and automation efforts. The ultimate goal is to achieve higher levels of performance in safety, quality, delivery, and cost. In this role, the engineer will leverage data analytics, engineering methodologies, and advanced lean tools to enable root cause identification and elimination. The position requires effective interaction with employees at all levels and functions across the operation, ensuring that continuous improvement initiatives are well communicated and executed. Reporting to the Lead Engineer, CI Manager, or Sr. CI Manager, this role is closely aligned with Operations Management, making it essential for the engineer to collaborate effectively with various stakeholders. Key responsibilities include collecting data and performing statistical analysis, mapping and documenting processes, and independently identifying process gaps. The engineer will recommend and implement process improvements, develop and manage a comprehensive continuous improvement plan, and drive process improvement activities to achieve tangible improvements in key business metrics. Additionally, the engineer will manage and complete CI and steady-state engineering projects, assess CI initiatives, and provide input and recommendations on future activities. The role also involves supporting go-live and steady-state certifications and identifying and supporting automation projects. The engineer will be expected to develop and demonstrate competency in a wide range of engineering methods, lean tools, and quality standards, coaching employees in the use and implementation of CI, Quality Assurance, and Lean principles. Effective facilitation and execution of Value Stream Maps and Kaizen Events are also critical components of this position, along with providing regular reports of data and actions to measure progress against site objectives. The engineer will also make recommendations regarding inventory and supply chain strategies, ensuring that all functions related to Quality Assurance for a start-up or expansion are performed effectively.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or Supply Chain and five years of related work experience in Warehousing, Transportation, or Manufacturing; or a Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or Supply Chain Management and three years of related experience.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Intermediate skills in data visualization tools (PowerBI, Tableau) and database programming (SQL, DAX).
  • Functional experience in developing and managing Leader Standard Work, Visual Management Systems, and Management Accountability Systems.
  • Understanding and experience in core engineering and data analysis functions such as slotting, utilization, labor planning, layouts, and metrics.
  • Intermediate knowledge of warehouse design tools such as CAD (AutoCAD), slotting (Slot3D), and Warehouse Management Systems (Manhattan Scale).
  • Knowledge of warehouse management operations, data analytics, and Lean methods.
  • Knowledge of material handling solutions and automation types, including powered industrial truck applications and conveyor systems.
  • Knowledge of Dedicated Services and Managed Transportation Networks.
