About the position

The Warehouse Senior Industrial Engineer position at Ryder System is a pivotal role that supports the company's Continuous Improvement culture across various operations. This position is designed for individuals who are passionate about applying continuous improvement methods to enhance both new and existing operations. The engineer will be responsible for identifying and driving change within the operation through data-driven continuous improvement (CI), engineering, and automation efforts. The ultimate goal is to achieve higher performance levels in safety, quality, delivery, and cost. This role requires effective use of data analytics, engineering methodologies, and advanced lean tools to facilitate root cause identification and elimination, ensuring that operations run smoothly and efficiently. In this role, the engineer will collect data and perform statistical analyses, mapping and documenting processes to identify gaps and recommend improvements. A thorough and effective continuous improvement plan will be developed and managed to drive value for customers, focusing on key business metrics such as safety, quality, delivery, cost, and employee development. The engineer will also manage and complete CI and steady-state engineering projects that lead to improved business results, providing input and recommendations on future CI initiatives. Regular interaction with operations management and customers is expected, ensuring that the engineer is aligned with the operational goals and objectives. The position also involves developing and demonstrating competency in a wide range of engineering methods, lean tools, and quality standards. The engineer will coach employees in the use and implementation of CI, Quality Assurance, and Lean principles, applying various engineering methodologies and tools to improve distribution and transportation operations. Effective facilitation of Value Stream Maps and Kaizen Events is crucial, as is the ability to provide regular reports on data and actions to measure progress against site objectives. The engineer will also make recommendations regarding inventory and supply chain strategies, ensuring that the operations are optimized for efficiency and effectiveness.

Responsibilities

  • Collect data and perform statistical analysis to identify process gaps and recommend improvements.
  • Develop and manage a continuous improvement plan to drive value for customers.
  • Drive process improvement activities to achieve tangible improvements in safety, quality, delivery, cost, and employee development.
  • Manage and complete continuous improvement and steady-state engineering projects that lead to improved business results.
  • Support go-live and steady-state certifications and identify automation projects.
  • Facilitate and execute Value Stream Maps and Kaizen Events, coaching process owners on lean methods.
  • Provide regular reports of data and actions to measure progress against site objectives and make inventory/supply chain strategy recommendations.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or Supply Chain and five years of related work experience; or a Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or Supply Chain Management and three years of related experience.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Intermediate skills in data visualization tools (PowerBI, Tableau) and database programming (SQL, DAX).
  • Functional experience in developing and managing Leader Standard Work, Visual Management Systems, and Management Accountability Systems.
  • Understanding and experience in core engineering and data analysis functions such as slotting, utilization, labor planning, layouts, and metrics.

Nice-to-haves

  • Knowledge of warehouse design tools such as CAD (e.g., AutoCAD) and Warehouse Management Systems (e.g., Manhattan Scale).
  • Familiarity with material handling solutions and automation types, including powered industrial truck applications and conveyor systems.
  • Lean Six Sigma certification, cPMP, ISO/QMS certification preferred.
  • Other certifications from the American Production Inventory Control Society (APICS) or in Supply Chain Logistics.
