About the position

The Senior Continuous Improvement Engineer position at Ryder is a pivotal role within our Supply Chain Solutions division, aimed at fostering a culture of continuous improvement across our operations. This remote position can be based in Buckner, KY, Columbia, SC, or Fort Worth, TX. The engineer will actively apply continuous improvement methodologies to enhance both new and existing operations, driving significant changes through data-driven approaches, engineering principles, and automation initiatives. The goal is to achieve superior performance in safety, quality, delivery, and cost metrics. In this role, the engineer will leverage data analytics and advanced lean tools to identify root causes of operational inefficiencies and implement effective solutions. The position requires collaboration with employees at all levels, ensuring that continuous improvement practices are integrated throughout the organization. Reporting to the Lead Engineer, CI Manager, or Sr. CI Manager, the engineer will work closely with Operations Management to align improvement initiatives with business objectives. Key responsibilities include collecting and analyzing data, mapping processes, identifying gaps, and recommending improvements. The engineer will develop and manage a comprehensive continuous improvement plan, driving initiatives that lead to measurable enhancements in key business metrics. Additionally, the role involves managing CI projects, supporting automation efforts, and coaching employees on lean principles and quality assurance practices. Regular reporting on progress and outcomes will be essential to measure success against site objectives.

Responsibilities

  • Collect data and perform statistical analysis to identify process gaps.
  • Map and document processes to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Independently identify process gaps and recommend improvements.
  • Develop and manage a continuous improvement plan to drive value for customers.
  • Drive process improvement activities to achieve improvements in safety, quality, delivery, cost, and employee development.
  • Manage and complete continuous improvement and steady-state engineering projects.
  • Assess continuous improvement initiatives and provide recommendations for future activities.
  • Support go-live and steady-state certifications for new processes.
  • Identify and support automation projects to enhance operational efficiency.
  • Regularly interact with operations management and customers to align improvement efforts.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or Supply Chain and five years of related work experience, or a Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or Supply Chain Management with three years of related experience.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Experience in data visualization tools such as PowerBI or Tableau, and database programming (SQL, DAX).
  • Functional experience in developing and managing Leader Standard Work, Visual Management Systems, and Management Accountability Systems.
  • Understanding of core engineering and data analysis functions, including slotting, utilization, labor planning, and layouts.

Nice-to-haves

  • Proficiency in SAP WMS.
  • Knowledge of Warehouse Management operations and data analytics.
  • Experience with warehouse design tools such as AutoCAD and slotting software.
  • Familiarity with Lean Six Sigma methodologies and certifications such as cPMP or ISO/QMS.
  • Knowledge of material handling solutions and automation types.
