About the position

The Senior Continuous Improvement Engineer position at Ryder is a pivotal role within the Supply Chain Solutions division, located in Lockbourne, OH. This position is designed to support and enhance the Ryder Continuous Improvement culture across operations by actively applying continuous improvement methodologies to both new and existing processes. The engineer will be responsible for identifying and driving change within the operation through data-driven continuous improvement, engineering, and automation efforts, ultimately aiming to achieve higher performance levels in safety, quality, delivery, and cost. In this role, the engineer will leverage data analytics, engineering methodologies, and advanced lean tools to facilitate root cause identification and elimination. The position requires effective interaction with employees at all levels and functions across the operation, ensuring that continuous improvement initiatives are well communicated and executed. Reporting to the Lead Engineer, CI Manager, or Sr. CI Manager, the engineer will work closely with Operations Management to align continuous improvement efforts with overall business objectives. Key responsibilities include collecting data and performing statistical analysis, mapping and documenting processes, and independently identifying process gaps. The engineer will recommend and implement process improvements, develop and manage a comprehensive continuous improvement plan, and drive activities that lead to tangible improvements in key business metrics. Additionally, the engineer will manage and complete continuous improvement and steady-state engineering projects, assess CI initiatives, and provide input on future activities. Regular interaction with operations management and customers is expected to ensure alignment and support for ongoing projects. The engineer will also be responsible for coaching employees in the use and implementation of continuous improvement, quality assurance, and lean principles. This includes applying engineering methodologies such as product slotting, labor standards studies, and resource modeling to enhance distribution and transportation operations. The role requires effective facilitation of Value Stream Maps and Kaizen Events, ensuring that all stages of the process are executed efficiently and results are sustained over time. Regular reporting of data and actions to measure progress against site objectives is also a critical function of this position.

Responsibilities

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Business, or Supply Chain and five years of related work experience; or a Master's degree in Industrial Engineering, Business Administration, or Supply Chain Management with three years of related experience.
  • Expertise in Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Access, Excel, PowerPoint, and Visio.
  • Intermediate skills in data visualization tools (PowerBI, Tableau) and database programming (SQL, DAX).
  • Functional experience in developing and managing Leader Standard Work, Visual Management Systems, and Management Accountability Systems.
  • Intermediate understanding of core engineering and data analysis functions such as slotting, utilization, labor planning, and layouts.
  • Knowledge of warehouse management operations, data analytics, and lean methods.
