About The Position

The Waste Package Certifier plays a crucial role in ensuring that waste packages are prepared, filled, closed, and secured according to Y-12 procedures and regulatory requirements. This position supports the Waste Certification Manager and is responsible for certifying compliance with various environmental regulations and disposal facility acceptance criteria. The role involves interfacing with waste generators and engineers to ensure proper waste management practices are followed.

Requirements

• Associate's degree in a related discipline with a minimum of 2 years of relevant experience, or 6+ years of education and/or relevant experience.
• Typical relevant experience of 4-6 years is preferred.
• Ability to work outside during all seasons and work overtime as required.
• Must be able to wear respiratory protection on occasion.

Nice To Haves

• Experience applying Resource Conservation and Recovery Act and Toxic Substances Control Act regulations.
• Experience verifying appropriate packaging for waste destined for the Nevada National Security Site and Environmental and Waste Management Facility.
• Y-12 experience is preferred.
• Production experience is preferred.

Responsibilities

• Certify that waste packages comply with Y-12 procedures and regulatory requirements.
• Ensure waste is properly characterized, profiled, and prepared prior to packaging.
• Complete appropriate paperwork to document package certification.
• Interface with waste generators, waste engineers, and alternate waste certification officials.
• Identify prohibited items and segregate them from acceptable items.
• Support the Waste Certification Manager and Alternate WCOs as needed.
