About the position

The Wastewater Operator is responsible for the safe operation of the Wastewater Treatment plant, ensuring compliance with wastewater discharge regulations and monitoring processes. This role involves performing routine checks of water and wastewater facilities and requires working in a continuous 24x7 rotating shift environment, including nights, weekends, and holidays.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain all aspects of the wastewater treatment plant, including physical, chemical, and biological processes.
  • Inspect and maintain pumps, motors, valves, and other plant equipment, troubleshooting problems as they arise.
  • Manipulate controls and operate a computer-controlled system while observing production processes.
  • Collect samples and perform analytical testing using laboratory instruments for temperature, pressure, volume, and weight.
  • Analyze readings and maintain accurate records of instrument readings.
  • Lift materials, connect line/tank hook-ups, and conduct area housekeeping.
  • Operate a forklift and clean equipment as part of regular duties.
  • Follow applicable work processes and complete job-specific training certification.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma, High School Job Readiness Certification, or equivalent educational diploma.
  • Two years of work experience (Manufacturing experience is a plus) or an Associate's degree or technical degree.
  • Ability to obtain a NYSDEC 2A license.
  • High safety and environmental awareness.
  • Ability to work well within an inclusive team environment.
  • Strong communication skills with team members and other individuals.
  • Ability to identify opportunities for continuous improvement.
  • Good interpersonal skills and professionalism.
  • Initiative and desire to learn and develop.
  • Intermediate level skills in problem solving, troubleshooting, and analytical thinking.
  • Ability to lift 50 lbs.
  • Willingness to work overtime as required.

Nice-to-haves

  • Working knowledge of site chemical operations.
  • Knowledge of wastewater treatment system design and operation.
  • Possession of a NYSDEC 2A license.
