About the position

Wastewater Treatment Plant Technicians operate and maintain Wastewater Treatment Plant equipment and facilities. Incumbents are responsible for the operation of a modern Class V secondary wastewater treatment plant. Incumbents may be assigned to work any shift and may be required to work holidays and weekends. This is a flexibly-staffed series, which allows incumbents to flex to the Wastewater Treatment Plant Specialist after obtaining the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade II Certificate. The probationary period for employees in this classification shall be up to eighteen (18) months, at the discretion of management. An employee in this series must serve a minimum one (1) year probationary period. Employees in this classification must obtain the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade II Certificate within eighteen (18) months of appointment. Failure to obtain the Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade II Certificate within eighteen (18) months will be cause for termination.

Responsibilities

  • Operate and maintain Wastewater Treatment Plant equipment and facilities.
  • Ensure the operation of a modern Class V secondary wastewater treatment plant.
  • Work any shift as assigned, including holidays and weekends.

Requirements

  • Possession of a Wastewater Treatment Plant Operator Grade I certificate issued by the State Water Resources Control Board.
  • Possession and continued maintenance of a valid California Driver's License.
